So we live about 10 miles outside of town.. on a lil dirt road....

about 15 minutes ago I hear my 3 dogs going off about something.. so I paused American Idol... Walked outside and hear yelping from other dogs..

3 dogs who havent ate in I dunno how long.. weak as can be.. so now I have 3 stray dogs in my kennel... The worst part is I dont think our vet in town will take dogs unless they are found inside city limits...

I live in the country as well. I had 5 dogs and at one time 5 cats. Since two of the dogs were given away and two more died the numbers have changed. Now 1 house dog and 12 cats......several are stray's. One of them is pregnant......Anyone want a cat?

Does the vet have to know they weren't?

I know the joys of country living....here is my little friend I was telling you about yesterday!

Also...since this was on the same disk...here is the picture of my cat after Kelissa painted him!

He was also one of those animals that just showed up!

I live in town. I have two dogs I adopted and they both live like
queens. But I have a retired RN as a neighbor and she feeds a
family of stray cats. One of them is a male that is as friendly as can
be and even my autistic son like him. If you knew him you'd
realize that is huge.

My question is does anyone know what goes into making a stray
cat a house cat besides getting him fixed?

Cat box if he is going to be an inside cat!

Having him fixed won't keep him from spraying if he is too old....I don't think. I know it doesn't keep dogs from hiking.

A scratching post or it may tear your furniture up.

I don't believe in a cat being declawed...if they accidentally get out...and they do....they are defenseless.

Well that's what I want is to make him an inside cat. My son has
already named him Forrest and no not after Adidas410s. Lol

The spraying thing is what I was most worried about. As far as
being old..these cats are like four months. I guess I should've
started from the beginning by saying a momma cat turned up on
my neighbor's porch and Momma cat proceeded to have kittens.

Whenever I open the back door all the cats stand there and wait
for scraps. Forrest doesn't do that. He runs straight in the house
with no fear and starts climbing up my thigh and purring. He's
goes straight from that to dragging his claws across the carpet in
the living room. So I can see he would definitely need a scrach
post.

I agree 100% with not declawing dogs and cats. You never know
when they might be put in a postion to have to defend themselves.

Ohh...if he is that young and you get him cut before he starts.....you should have a GREAT cat!!!!

A kitten would be a perfect companion for your son too!!

I give the idea two thumbs up!!:2thumbsup

Lots of love! We had a stray adopt our back deck about 2 years ago.. we fed him and took care of him.. then one day we noticed he wouldnt walk on his right front paw.. I got him to the vet and of course he wasnt fixed and started spraying all over the place bc he was scared of everybody but us.. they had to put him under to be able to clean his paw and we went ahead and had him fixed.. The vet told us to keep him inside for atleast a week. We kept him in our laundry room fixed him his own cat box (which he used liked a pro) and ever since has been an indoor/outdoor cat. He doesnt scratch the furniture or fight with our other cat. He even plays with the puppies lol.

If he wants to keep them why would you have to buy their dog
food?

Let me tell you a secret about dog food.. Buy the good stuff. The cheap crap will cost you more money. I spend about half of what I used to spend since I started buying the Diamond Pro from the feed store. It sticks with them and last twice as long.

My dog will only eat.. either Ol Roy(crap dog food) Beneful or Science Diet( which is way overpriced) so we go with Beneful I can get close to a 50lb bag that will last 2 weeks for about 25 bucks so I dont complain to much but for 6 dogs I dont even wanna think about how much I'd spend.

I have always fed my two queen bees Beneful. The last time I
went to Brookeshire's they were out. So I bought them Gravy
Train. I mixed it up for them thinking they would devour it and
they did touch it. The next day I look at their food bowl and they
ate about half of it. My guess is they waited for the gravy to dry
up. I'll never buy anything other than Beneful again.

I live in the city and have two adopted pets(three total).
The first is a male sharpei/golden retriever mix that goes by the name of "Jack". I like the name as I get to play with all kinds of add-ons... like Jack-in-the-Box, JackFM(Jack Feed Me), Crack in the Jack, Jacked up, You don't know JACK, Jack not nimble or Jack be nimble and my favorite... Jack Ass. All those names keeps my family having fun with the dog. lol
The second is a large male black cat with green eyes we call "Midnight". He still likes to mark our house even though he is fixed. I really don't understand cats. I saved this cat from death by nursing him back to health from his death bed last year and spending close to $1000 dollars on him and he still likes to mark. Oh well, my wife and kids love him even though he plays with me more than them. lol Crazy Cats!
All our animals, including our Lhasa Apso Gizmo, is fixed. Gizmo is 13 and thinks she still rules the house. Poor thing is blind but is cuter than cute. Good guard dog and faithful companion.
I miss the country life.:)
.
* I forgot we adopted Gizmo over 11 years ago.

I live out in the country and keep cat and dog food about 75 yards off my deck. Whenever a dog or cat come to eat I blast them with my 30-30. It is awsome to watch them blow up.
