Not sure where game is going to be located i do know that both coaches are meeting somewhere today to discuss day and place.

Any Predictions?

my guess would be at the Wharton County Junior College field...it's pretty decent, and it's about halfway between Sweeny and Bellville...

Strickland Field is becoming the “home away from home” for the Brahmas. They played three games in the Weimar tournament, faced Giddings in the District seeding game, Wharton for two games in the Bi-District Round, and Cuero last night in the Area playoff. Their record is 6 wins and one loss. With this series, the Brahmas will have played at least 9 games in Weimar. They only played 10 games at home all season.

It’s a great atmosphere for a baseball game. If the teams were using wooden bats, you would swear that you had stepped back in time to the 1950’s. The Veterans Park (Strickland Field) in Weimar was ahead of its time when it was built in 1948, and was the first lighted baseball field between San Antonio and Houston. The citizens named it Veterans Park in honor of those who had been killed in the two World Wars. How fitting that this series be played near Memorial Day weekend in a park dedicated to those who died serving our Country.

If you haven’t attended a game there and you are a baseball fan, it needs to be one of the 100 things you do before you die.

Some of the Bellville fans in here are coming at me, so I will keep coming right back. Obviously, some of them have something against me. Also, what do you mean by "derogatory post"? I have not once posted anything in here that is even close to "derogatory". I don't trash players. I have just gotten fed up with the surliness of some of the Bellville fans in here. If you look at some earlier posts in this thread, some Bellville fans were trashing my town, Wharton, and the WCJC field. I support certain teams, just as you support Bellville, and your own team, Giddings.

Facility at Wharton has a playing surface that matches or may even be better than Weimar's. Nothing against Weimar but if you don't like Wharton you won't like a lot of ballparks....

The history of the Weimar ballpark and the fact that it is Memorial Day weekend makes it even more special to play in Weimar. Tom Strickland and his wife do an outstanding job of getting the field ready for a series every weekend. Weimar is what baseball should be.

If the bond that was voted on in Wharton County had passed the baseball facility was going to get a face lift and look a lot like the historic Weimar...Grandstand type ballpark. I think Wharton voted to pass bond but Needville or East Bernard shot it down.

Wharton Tiger field great place to play. Would like to have seen this series in Wharton. About 45 minutes from both.

They play on the same field but WCJC has to schedule around the High School schedule. Field is taken care of by the high school coaches. Junior college has a practice facility on their on campus and nice cages. Junior college doesn't practice on the big field until after High school is done. I think they practice on big field in the Fall....

Any chance the Wharton softball team gets a field?

I mean they play at the park and the dugouts are the perfect size for 5 and 6 year old pixie teams.

Baseball field is top notch and the softball....not so much.

While the High School coaches do keep up with the field the juco players and coaches do thier fair share of work on the field too. For instance the High School kids struggle pulling out the tarp correctly so when there is rain in the area the college players must come out and help pull the tarp. It is techniqually the High School's field but the college puts in more than its due amount of work.

the only time the junior college pulls the tarp is when they play the next day.

The junior college does care for the field after their games (mound, plate, clean up, etc), but most of the grunt work is done by the Tiger baseball coaching staff. The Tigers and Pioneers work hand in hand in the upkeep of the ballpark.

Don't know much about Hornback's pitching, but he sure can hit. For Bellville, I think you would have to look at Smith, Pickett, Tallerine, Kendrick and Gaffey. All have pitched this year at one time or another. I think you would have to save Mueller for a relief role tonight or Saturday if needed.

Wasn't Tallerine the ace of the Bellville staff for the previous 2 seasons? I heard he had some arm trouble, but I think Bellville would look at him, assuming the arm is better.

It was an awesome game. Both teams played hard until the very end. I thought Sweeny might tie it up after they loaded the bases in the 7th, but it didn't work out for them. I agree that this series will probably go 3 games.

Good game last night. With Hornback on the mound tonight, Sweeny should be able to force a game 3.

When was Hornback's last outing on the mound, and how many innings pitched?

He threw Monday, finished the game, threw about 120 pitches.

:iagree:

Tallerine will be on the mound for Bellville tonight. Bellville has had success against high velocity pitchers this year i.e Trey Masek from Giddings, Kris Looper from Wharton, so don't be so sure Hornback will shut the Bulls down. KL3, will you be in weimar tonight?

Let's hope so! Bellville has won every game when tigerfan09 predicts against them. ;)

As much as I can't stand SOME of the Bellville fans on this board, I have to say that Bellville has been playing some very good ball during their playoff run so far. Seeing as though they dominated Cuero and now Sweeny, I am surprised they weren't ranked higher in the state rankings through the season...

In spite of this...

GO ROBSTOWN!

What's funny on this board, posters picking the Bellville opponent just because Bellville deated their team and or they had to eat crow with their failed predictions. Now they are picking Robstown over Bellville, a team that hasn't even won their series yet.
