Food threads are always good when things are slow, and I haven't had one closed yet....:D

Fresh strawberries are hard to beat. Trouble with fresh fruit is the price----grocers know everybody loves it and you can't hardly afford to buy much of it anymore.

Fresh strawberries with Cool Whip is pretty good. I also like good ol' sweet watermelon, or cherries, or bananas, or sweet navel oranges, or apples, heck any kind of fresh fruit will do. :inlove:

Was at a party a few years back and some gal served up a fruit pizza---all kinds of fruit, including kiwi, on a bed of condensed milk mixed with cream cheese with a graham cracker crust. That was sinful good.

Ever try a fresh, whole pineapple? Put it in the fridge, let it get cold, and then slice it into rings or spears. Used to garnish my pina coladas and chi chi's with a wedge of that....or let the bartender do it when I am sitting at a beach bar in Hawaii.

Dang, that sounds good! I wished my wife would make one of those. Of course, it would help if she had a recipe.

The one on a sugar cookie is easier!!

FRUIT PIZZA

2 pkgs. cream cheese (I always use the strawberry cream cheese.)
1 roll refrigerated sugar cookie dough
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. sugar (or to taste)
Pizza pan
Assorted fruit suggestions: Kiwi, strawberries, mandarin oranges, bananas, black or blue berries

Spread cookie dough over pizza pan. Cook the crust as directed on wrapper. In a bowl, microwave cream cheese until soft. Add vanilla and sugar. Spread cream cheese mixture on top of cooled cookie. Cut and lay fruit in circles. Serve immediately.

I.B., there is a guy in Bridgeport who lives out on the shore of the lake and has an orchard of plum trees. He lets me come out every now and then and pick all I want in season. Man, they are sweet and good.

How do you pick a good cantaloupe or a watermelon?

What is the best melon---Irish Gray or Black Diamond?

sinton66

On the vine, cantalope will pull off easily when ready. In the store, pick it up and smell the end that was attached to the vine. If it smells like cantalope, it's good. Don't know or care about watermelon.

Well, assuming you have not "contaminated" them--do you ever pick and eat em'?

Yep--if you can find one anymore. My dad used to tell me about eating persimmons---said you never wanted to try to eat a green one. He told me possums were fond of them.

OMG when I was in Hawaii years ago we ate fresh pineapple from some road vendor......mmmmmmmmmmmm......sooooo good, but I ate too much of it and the roof of my mouth was so raw! :( But it was delicious.

Green grapes for me!
