Apparently a somewhat different interpretation (at least from what I've seen) of the new NFHS rule this year about having to pull your bat back on a bunt to not count as a swing. These umpires took that to mean you have to pull your bat back on all swings to avoid getting rung up. Batters were rung up on ALL check swings because the bat was not moving BACK when the ball crossed the plate. One batter still had her bat on her shoulder while she slightly turned her shoulders and decided not to swing ... called a strike. Slappers that "ran thru" the pitch without swinging had strikes called on them because their bodies were moving forward, therefore the bat was moving forward, so ... strike. Not a big deal as the batters adjusted to it, but surprising nonetheless.

Looks like it'll be Needville/La Grange on Monday or Tuesday ... thinking Monday because of the track meet, but we'll see.
