What are some of your favorite places to travel to in Texas? Maybe for a Friday night or weekend trip?
It's OK to be a homer but please tell us what your city has to offer.
.
I myself love the Frio River area and the Marble Falls/Burnet area.

Does anyone know how the Concan region is doing this year? We are planning a trip there and was wondering if it is worth it this year or not. So i guess im asking if the river is up enuff to float or not.

I like to visit Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula. Is there anything left over on Bolivar? Hurricane Ike devastated the peninsula, but I haven't been down there since it happened.

Here is a website I use to get an idea of how the river is flowing.

The link opens to a page that indicates how discharge rates affect tubing.

Then you can click on the like that shows what the river level and flow rates are at Concan It appears to be "ok" as of now.

We go for a week every July and it is always fun!!

It took us almost 6 hours to float the 2 miles, or whatever it was.....and I was say it was AT LEAST half walking.

Having 2 dogs with me was hard enough....but trying to watch them and drag my tube AND theirs was interesting.

Needless to stay I pretty much stayed mad at my husband all that day!!:p

New Braunfels / Greune area. Lots of very nice scenery between here and there as well.

Moody Gardens - I couldnt care less about the rest of Galveston Island, but Moody Gardens is awesome.

Mustang Island - wish I could get there more often.

Concan / Leakey / Rio Frio

Paloduro Canyon

McDonald Observatory

San Antonio - but not during the hot humid summer down there.

The Woodlands - hope to play golf there some day

Honestly, I havent been down there since the Hurricane either but I have heard some coworkers say the place is still pretty tore up but there are some resturants open back up; however, they are hard to get to since roads are torn up a bit as well...

I like to go to San Antonio on the Riverwalk, go look at all the history stuff there...other than that i pretty much stay around Houston but since I live here it isnt really vacationing...Zoo, Space Center, Moody Gardens, Galveston, etc. is all good stuff to do...

Wow! "A" house? That's really sad. I took my family over there last August and we found some of the biggest shells we'd ever found with the sand crabs still in them. Last year, for the first time in several years, was the cleanest I had seen that beach...ever. I guess we probably won't venture over there this year if it's that bad. Then again, maybe we will. We'll definitely have to ride the ferry over, though.

i would guess they are starting to get get roads fixed...you will have new beaches to explore now, unfortunately some may be peoples yards as well...i dont know how many beach houses will be down there now, some people will rebuild but it was pretty devastating to the area...it will be 10-15 years before its all the way back as far as houses and buisness i'd imagine...

and yes, one house...im pretty sure that picture that had the one house standing and all others devastated that was on teh front page of the chronicle and many other publications after Ike was taken at Bolivar....i could be wrong, but even if it wasnt the impression I got was Bolivar was the same...

I was also thinking about taking the family to Florida this year, but I don't have a clue where to go. All we need is a nice clean room with a view, and a good, clean, family-oriented beach with a few amenities......something a little different that'll keep the kids entertained....and the wife and me, too. :D

I've heard about that place. It's in the panhandle, isn't it? Any decent lodging there on the beach? What kind of entertainment do they offer other than the beach? Is it reasonably priced?

It's not Texas but just a few mile up into Oklahoma is Turner Falls. It's a very nice place to go. Trout fishing and camping in a pine and mountain environment. Also Beavers Bend is a really nice lake north of Paris Tx............
