Better think twice before inviting G2 to live in your garage....

Squatter's rights are absolutely hard to understand. I think somebody needs to revise and update our laws.

I work in the foreclosure industry and these laws vary by state. I cant watch the video, but I know some states require a legal eviction to remove a squatter. There is no limit to how many times the SAME squatter can come back and cost the bank money for an eviction.

What complicates the story in the video is the owner's son invited
several people to live in a garage. I get that all of them left when
asked except for a woman. She refuses to leave and the cops
say they can do nothing because she isn't trespassing. At the end
of the video the reporter says she has been served with an
eviction notice and has until the end of the month(?) to get out.

That is pretty crazy, but the squatters laws are filled with loopholes. It is sad, but true and I deal with it on a daily basis.

So what would happen to the land owner if he simply walked in and gathered all her crap and hauled it out to the street?

Illegal eviction. He cant even turn off the utilities due to her non-payment either. It is illegal for him to do that to.

No but I bet he could cut a long branch down near a powerline and have it hopfully break it. then not call the company to get it fixed. that way her power was cut off by accident. what is she going to do about that. he didnt turn off the power but make a mistake while cutting a branch off a tree... ;)

if you own the property and they are there without your permission, can't you shoot them for trespassing?

if you do shoot them though, don't just knick them, make sure you take them out or they can sue you....and once its done, fire a shot into the ceiling so you can say you fired a warning shot first.....

It isnt trespassing if they are invited. Since they have established residence it isnt as simple as filing trespassing against her because you now want them to leave. All it takes is one utility bill in a tenants name in most states to establish residency, some all you have to do is post a mailing address, or set up any address service in your name.

Yep. In most cases you are correct.
