I've always said that Spades is for convicts and simple minded party goers, while Hearts is played by folks with a higher level of grey matter. Anyone disagree?

I used to play Hearts back in my youth with all of my friends.

My dad plays spades at family reunions. It looks inferior to hearts.

My 11 year old daughter can win at hearts. Hearts is by far the easier game.

I love playing Spades... FB_Gurl and I used to play other people in Algerba II in high school and the two of us could beat anybody who came across us!

You have lost your mind. Or your eleven year old daughter is beating eleven year old players, or is a child prodigy.

Hearts is a hundred times more complicated than spades when played properly.

That's what makes hearts such a great game. You play for yourself, but you also have an alliance with two others that keeps changing with each hand, when the game is played properly. I'm not talking about microsoft internet hearts, I'm talking about a live game with four live players.

I like them both but have always preferred Spades. In high school we always modified the rules to where you couldn't go low but if you and your partner went 10 and got it, you get 200 points. We thought going low was too easy so we kicked that out, and you had to bid at least three on your hand whether you thought you could catch it or not.

I guess I am just a simple minded party going convict, because I much prefer spades over hearts!!

Same here. I always thought Hearts and Gin Rummy were card
games for old ladies to play at social gatherings.

Played em' both in marathon sessions during college. Hearts does require more strategy thinking--especially in the opening card passing. We started playing for money for points and used "markers" instead of money. It finally got so bad that all we ended up doing was trading markers.

Hearts is more difficult

We played Spades the other night with some friends and my wife and I literally went blind nil on every hand and won after 5 hands. Spades is a time killer Hearts is way more interactice and takes way more thought.

Now that's a card game. My dad taught it to me when I was a little kid. I love it, but I really don't know anyone who plays it anymore.:(
