It is also a showdown night for the Sinton and Robstown in softball. Too bad the stadiums are not together like they are in Sinton because that way you can keep up with both games at the same time.

Fifth inning key for Sinton baseball in win over Robstown
Pirates take showdown of state-ranked 3A teams, 5-2
By Jaime Gonzalez / Special to the Caller-Times
Wednesday, April 22, 2009
ROBSTOWN — A couple of fifth-inning runs gave Sinton all the insurance it needed in a 5-2 win over Robstown on Tuesday night in a battle of two of the state's top-ranked Class 3A baseball teams.
Up by a run in the fifth, Sinton's Ram Sanchez drew a two-out walk. Ray Perez knocked the next pitch over the left-field wall for a two-run home run.
"We got the two-out base on balls and the long ball," Sinton coach Gene Kasprzyk said. "You don't really count on that, but it's instant offense."
Sinton added another run on back-to-back hits by Shane Segovia and Josh Rodriguez before Robstown got out of the inning.
The Pirates, ranked third in the state, improve to 19-7 with the win and remain undefeated at 11-0 in District 31-3A play.
"We knew what was at stake," Kasprzyk said. "We knew if we came in here and won we would be in a positive position in the district race. That's really what we were thinking about."
The Cotton Pickers, the No. 6 team in the state, fell to 19-7-1 and 9-2 in district games. The loss kept them from forging a first-place tie with the Pirates.
"We're still there in the playoffs," Robstown coach Steve Castro said. "Once the playoffs start it's a whole other season, and anything can happen."
Segovia took the win for the Pirates. He pitched a complete game, allowing two runs -- one earned -- and five hits. He walked one batter while striking out seven.
Ryan Velasquez took his first loss of the season to fall to 8-1 for the Cotton Pickers. He allowed five runs on five hits while walking two and striking out seven in five innings of work.
The Pirates had a chance to break the game open in the sixth, loading the bases with one out on three consecutive walks, but Manuel Leal came on in relief and struck out Sanchez and Perez to end the Sinton threat and keep it a four-run game.
Robstown got a run back in the bottom of the seventh when a two-out error allowed Steven Charles to score from first base.
Sinton drew first blood in the top of the first inning with Rodriguez bringing in Sanchez on a RBI double to right-center field.
Robstown tied the game with the first two batters they sent to the plate. Ruben Elizondo hit a leadoff triple to right-center field on the first pitch he saw and scored on a Randy Flores sacrifice fly to right field.
