5A - Desoto
4A - Longview / Rockwall
3A - Crockett

I'm talking about schools you hear of and think great things about but when you really look at them you ask yourself what have they ever done.

question how can a program that has won and played in few title games be considered overrated?. Why all the negative vipes for the mustangs of wos?

if you base it on number or titles won?.....maybe modern day Waco High.

One school I have never figured out...why they don't compete better for playoff wins and state titles is Bryan.....there sure is some talent walking around that town.

Bryan actually has a 5A and a 3A and then Consolidated over in College Station....

For me if its all time overrated programs its got to be someone who hasn't won a title.....DeSoto would be up there....

I don't think I'd agree with Iraan. I watched them and Cisco play
a 2A Div. 1 quarter or semifinal game in Mustang Bowl a few years
back. It went to double overtime. It was a hell of a game.

I don't agree with you on Longview and John Tyler. This past year was Longview's first year in 4A, and they went all the way to the finals. They just ran into a very good Lake Travis team. They were very young, too. They'll have most of the team back this year, too. I don't remember John Tyler being rated at all, so how can they be overrated. I thought you had to be rated first to be considered.

Matthew328

Its hard to do an overrated of all time list since programs go through down cycles all the time and aren't rated at all...its more of a year to year thing

Me picking WOS was a little joke that goes back to when they first dropped down.

I've seen them play several times now and don't think they are overrated, they just seem to under achieve. :D

No one said it had to be this year only.
Iraan is ranked high just about every year, only to be absolutely destroyed somewhere around the 3rd round(usually by Stratford).
Longview was always ranked high in 5a, yet rarely made it past the 2nd round.
It took about 3 years of not making the playoffs to get JTJ out of the rankings. Prior to that, they were usually ranked rather high.
I think you could also put Highland Park on that list. Until the arrival of Matt Stafford, they usually found themselves turning in equipment around week 11.
Okay, I see your point now. I don't necessarily agree, but you do make a valid point. I guess it's just how you interpret it.

Top of the polls every year, but unless they're in region 4, they won't sniff it. In region 4, they're hell on wheels until they meet a region 3 team usually. Hmm sounds like a 3a team I know of

What about Cameron ? Always ranked and seldom a big time producer. They do have a state championship, but they do not live up to their hype on a yearly basis.

Texas High won state in 2001 I think....shoulda won it in 2002 if the QB would not have gotten kicked off the team for being a moron....Texas High spanked New Braunfels in the title game 42-7 I believe

Brownwood played Texas High in the 4A Div 1 Semi Finals that year. We were up 14-13 in the second quarter when our do-all runningback/safety Freddie Stoglin was injured. We wound up losing that game 27-14 or 28-14... Texas High marched through the playoffs that year, we were the only team that even stayed on the field with them.

WOS was great in the 80's but since then they have consistently been one of the most most overrated teams in the state.

Ah, yes...more love from a BH follower. I'll add your name to the list of WO-S football experts from Mont Belvieu.

No team can be "overrated" over a 20+ year period. Over that time span, a team would have "fallen off" (like PNG did in the 80's after dominance in the 70's). WO-S has had only ONE losing season since they opened in 1977, and furthermore, they have highest winning percentage of any school in the state of Texas. I'd say that's neither "overrated" nor "fallen off".

To say that a team is overrated because they haven't won a state title in recent years is very short sided. By that standard, you can write of dozens of really good 3A teams as "overrated" or even failures.

Get real...

over the past 10 yrs or so i have to say the most consistently overrated team is Cuero.

Graham played their absolute best game of the year against the Lions. McCoy and his receivers (and Cameron Bailey) had a heck of a game that night. I still can't believe after the slugfest in the first half, the Lions were shut out in the 2nd half. With Graham returning so many players next year, and the Lions getting a new coaching staff, who knows what will happen this season. It should be a good one.
