I've ridden with Madden for his whole career. Annoying at times, but in the main, a true broadcast pro---especially when teamed with Al Michaels. I'll miss him in the booth.

I loved him as well, although I thought he was best with Pat Summerall.

I for one will not miss him. He made some of the stupidest comments I have ever heard. He broadcast like he was doing it for 3rd graders.

He was on the down, that's for sure. Still, I'd pay money to watch the SB on PPV if him and Pat Summerall did one more game together.

^^^ Ditto. That was the best duo in sports in my opinion, although he was still good with Al Michaels. "BOOM!"

:iagree: :iagree: No way will I miss him highlighting 'butt sweat" between plays. Seen him do that several times and always drives me nuts!

I'll be honest. I couldn't stand him as a broadcaster. When
someone interviewed him or he was recalling something from the
past he was all right. But as a broadcaster he sucked. Pairing
him with Al Michaels was the worse thing for me. Because
Michaels is my all time favorite. Anytime I watch a game being
called by Madden or Cris Collinsworth I have to watch it with the
sound off.

Al Michaels has dropped off a lot too. Biggest pet peeve in announcing is a trend HE started....

"Plaxico Burress injured tonight with a thigh, he's probably out for the season with it"

"We expected to see Jones tonight, but he still has a knee, so he won't dress"

Well, you're in luck then, because Collinsworth will be taking Madden's spot!

I liked Madden, and I'll miss him.

Madden had some annoying habits, but he understood his job and did his job very well. He was one of the most knowlegeable broadcasters of football that has ever entered the booth. His job was a color commentator and as such he was asked to talk about the fans view of the game and make them understand why some things were done the way they were by coaches, owners, and even refs. I appreciate that he always found something out of the ordinary to be the "human interest approach". Yeah, he sometimes had a little too much, like the butt sweat contest, but he also brough alot of background information to the viewers that would probably never have been known otherwise.

He was a great football coach and understood the minds and pschies of the players better than most. He took that into the booth and gave America some of the wierdness that is a big part of professional sports, even when the truth hurt the prima donna images of some of the games greatest stars. One thing though, he was as hard on the owners and the NFL as he was on indivual players and that was refreshing.

Madden may not have been perfect, but he was one of the best at the job he was hired to do and the NFL on television will never be the same again.
