Celina will not play Lytle this season.

Celina will now play Ferris in the season opener.

Sweeny was supposed to play Houston Sterling last season but Hurricane Ike changed that. Sweeny wound up playing at Bellville on their bye week. It has not been said if Sweeny will play Bellville or Houston Sterling this season.

No seriously ... I think it was the cost of travel.

Halfway between the south of San Antonio and the north of Dallas is a long travel for an opener.

According to mapquest it is 338 miles between the two towns which would be about 170 half way. That is about 2 and a half hours driving 70 mph. We go further for district games. So why complain about one long bus ride?

That's what I was thinking. The buses can go 70 but it's illegal. Aren't they supposed to not go over 60 MPH, maybe even 55? At that speed, considering the stop and goes through towns, that 2-1/2 hour trip just went to 3-1/2 hours or more.:(

I know when some schools try to schedule another school that's a long distance (200-300 miles), they try to agree on a neutral site that's within equal distance, and secure a stadium for which ever week that won't interfere with the school's stadium they are playing in, sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.
An example I know of was in I believe 04' and 05', Jarrell and Jim Ned played their two year series at GW Stadium in Brownwood, with each school swapping home and visitor, both schools are about 185 miles apart.

When he said "we go further" he was talking about West Texas!!

But I see what you are saying...there are lots of little towns between those 2.

Really? I didn't know that! So I went online to check and this is what I came up with:

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/schoolbus/speedlimit.htm

This even made it more confusing. What the heck is the difference between a school bus and a school activity bus?
 I had always heard that the school bus speed limit was 60, but now I ain't sure......... I'll take your word for it, though.

I don't think any of our "school buses" would qualify as a "school activity bus" per their definition.

4. The term "School Activity Bus" does not include a School Bus, therefore if a vehicle was manufactured in compliance with the federal motor vehicle safety standards as a school bus or if it ever was used as a school bus it can never be a "school activity bus".

That whole thing seems kinda silly to me!! But....they can go 70 whereas a "school bus" isn't supposed to, according to that site!!

I can see why you are confused.:crazy1:

Speed Limit:

(a). A speed in excess of the limits established in Section 545.352 of the Transportation Code is not reasonable and prudent and that the speed is unlawful.
(b). Unless a special hazard exists that require a slower speed for compliance with Section 545.351, the following speeds are lawful outside an urban district:

50 mph if the vehicle is a school bus that:

1. has not passed a commercial motor vehicle inspection under Section 548.201 or
2. Is traveling on a highway not number by the United States or this State.

60 mph if the vehicle is a school bus that:

1. Has passed a commercial motor vehicle inspection under Section 548.201 and
2. Is on a highway numbered by the United States or this State, including a farm to market road.

Not a lot.....it did have a bed though!!:D

I loved that van on football trips when the kids were smaller!!

I had it a couple of years before I discovered the downlow. I still remember pulling over on the side of the road and trying to get a signal on the TV in the van so we could catch the "Final Score" at 11. Otherwise I had to wait until the paper came the next day!!

Now....I have scores texted to me quarterly, so I know everything I need to know before I ever leave the parking lot!!

(Is texted correct?? My spellchecker doesn't like it!!)

Text'd???

hmmmm:thinking:

Only to bust some kids butts!!! (We didn't have time for "THAT" back then!)...and trying to get football scores.

I still remember pulling over and bailing out of that van intent on dragging my oldest son out to give him a good butt bustin...only to have him run around and around the van away from me!!

:( Come on now! I'm right here! Don't talk about me like that! :D

I remember when I was younger, my Moma making me go out and pick the switch she was gonna use on me. If it didn't last the 20 or 30 swats she was gonna give me, she'd go out and find one herself......then I'd get whooped again......so it turned into a double whooping! She made us boys drop our pants, too! Many a time I had big 'ol welps pop up.....sometimes they even drew a little blood.:( By today's standards that would be child abuse! It seems like I got whoopings at least once a day! I must've been one ornery little fart! But now in my adulthood I've learned to appreciate those whoopings I got. I say kids nowadays need whoopings like we got as kids. There would be a WHOLE lot fewer problems today! I'm not even gonna mention the belts that were used!

Riding on crowded DFW roadways on Friday afternoon is MUCH different than those vacant roads in the Ft Stockton area....

and not just travel was a concern to Lytle....getting 77 or more hung on em was as well....

watch it happen....the last HS game at Texas Stadium had some Bobcats in attendance, and so might the 1st HS game in some big new football palace in Arlington....

when the aggies and pigs play there the tickets will be up to $300 each....while the Bobcats may well get to see the new era of metroplex football stadium for about $10....and being the 1st game might also mean a few casual observers drop in to make a crowd for the 1st game of the year.....
