parents and the vet said i probably should...i mean he tried to bite at the kids neck..he was obviously trying to hurt the kid. I think the kid always taunts the dog behind the fence and it irritates him but there is still no reason for a dog to attack like that. The bad thing was my dad told the kid to come pet him bc he doesnt bite and as soon as the kid put his hand the dog attacked

I hate to hear stories like that. Years ago, we had a little dog, nice as could be, but bit a neighbor kid, and we did the same (not bite the kid, but put the dog to sleep). Then I found out the kid was hitting him with a water hose while playing in my backyard. I still get a little angry about that and it was more than 20 years ago.

Border Collies are squirrelly like that. I have had BCs for at least 40 years. I have had them that are extremely gentle and I have others that could not be pets.
Were the parents working dogs? I have sometimes found that if they were their pups tends to have their personallities. The biting of the neck is also a very BC trait. If they do that to sheep they have to be broke, if not they will kill the sheep and once they do that you have to get "rid" of them.
Sorry to hear about it, though. I have soft spot for them.

Couldn't maybe you put him through training first before taking such a drastic step?

Call the Dog Whisperer....he believes ALL dogs can be rehabilitated.

Is the dog walked everyday?? Dogs like that with that much energy need to be exercised A LOT or all the energy turns into frustration. He is a herding dog, he NEEDS to herd something!!! It is the job of the owner to make sure the dogs needs are met!!

I know lots of people may think Cesar Milan is full of crap, but my dogs are a LOT better since I started using the techniques he teaches. Oh yeah....I have a Border Collie/Australian Shepard mix who showed signs of that.....he is now a model dog!!

Is this the dog your girlfriend gave you and you named "Coach?"
