What is the minimum fine for an open container in a motor vehicle(passenger)? I know the maximum is $500 for a class C misdemeanor.

It really depends on the judge and the prosecution. I know that sometimes there is no fine and just community service. I've seen fines as low as $25 to $50. It depends a lot on the individual's past history, age., etc. If they have had previous convictions or charges for any crime, etc.

It's better to finish drinking the beverage before you get in the car.

fines are not actually set by the state, each individual court can actually set its own fine schedule within a set of broad guidelines the Legislature sets out. Any class C Misdemeanor has a maximum fine of 500 unless a greater amount is specifically set out in the law. There is normally not a minimum fine for any offense, it is at the judges discretion.
