Ok...we were at a track meet last night. 3 of my 4 4x200 runners ALSO run the 400 which is the next race...not real smart I know but anyways...

Last night I was going to scratch the 4x200 but then realized there were only 5 teams entered so I knew we were guaranteed points. I had them stride the entire thing ....knowing we would finish last but still got a couple points AND I told them it was their warmup for the 400.

Smart or Stupid?

VERY smart. And opportunistic. But, how many points did you get in the 400, as opposed to how many you could have possibly gotten in the 4x2?

" next " race is sometimes mis leading...

what i refer to is:

is this a girls and boys meet???

is this a subvarsity/varsity meet???

how many races inbetween is more of a concern that i'd have....

and sometimes if it is a poorly organized meet, by the time they get things going for the different divisions....your guys actually have enough rest time....

Very Smart! My old track coach used to do that with milers. He would enter them in oddball events where their were few entries just to get points. Since the mile was next to last event they we were still fresh. In those days there was no 3200 meter event.:D Yes it worked more often than not.

Smart! A stride out is a prefect warm-up for the 400M!

Very Smart. I told a kid who I had in the 100 to false start so he would be fresh for the 4x200 which we had a chance to advance. He didn't time it right but didn't run it hard. And we were able to advance.

You know we aren't qualified to answer that question!

Good for getting points for the team, not so good for the integrity of track and field. The 4x200 relay is designed for 4 runners to sprint the track for the lowest possible time. Striding around the track to get points is questionable to the sport IMO.
