There was, and will always be, only one "Duke".....

He sure knew how to handle them women folk---spanked em' when they were bad, and he had anethesizing lips---women who were fighting him went limp after he kissed them. :D

nah your more than a dler lol

Wyatt Earp was in harms way all the time..as was Chuck Yeager

John Wayne( again I love almost everyone of his movies and recognize he is an iconic actor) make movies. in the end he was an actor, not a real gunfighter or WWII vet. nothing agianst him, but when people say he is an American Hero I disagree, he was SHAPED into that legend because of the movies he was in, nothing more

This is not a HERO thread. It's a John Wayne thread.

Lee Marvin was a "dirtier" kind of John Wayne.

Stalone and Eastwood are cool, but they couldn't carry John Wayne's actor strap.:D

Eastwood has more range as an actor than Wayne imo

Eastwood may be even a better actor than John Wayne was.....but he is no John Wayne.:D And Stallone couldn't act if you paid him.

Are ya'll talking about their actual acting skills or their persona
they portray on the screen?

John Wayne couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag.
But he was a huge presence on the screen.
There are a lot of actors out there that can act and be bad
asses at the same time and do it better than John did.

Pacino and DeNiro come to mind.

Always laughed at the following quote from "Shanghi Noon" concerning John Wayne:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roy O'Bannon: [adjusting Chon's cowboy hat] There, sort of a rakish angle.
Chon Wang: How do I look?
Roy O'Bannon: I think you look great! I think you look like a real cowboy. Very dapper - red bandana.
[holding out his hand]
Roy O'Bannon: Roy O'Bannon.
Chon Wang: [shaking his hand] My name is Chon Wang.
Roy O'Bannon: John Wayne?
Chon Wang: Chon Wang.
Roy O'Bannon: That's a terrible cowboy name!
Chon Wang: Why?
Roy O'Bannon: No, come on. That's not gonna work. That's horrible; that's so bad! And so's the ponytail!

Several of the Duke's movies featured superb acting by him. Some that come to mind are The Searchers, El Dorado, Rio Bravo, and the Shootist.

Hey on Monday the Encore Western Channel is showing two of John Wayne's best westerns made in the early 60s and both are in color. One starts at 1:50 A.M. and is North to Alaska which also stars Stewart Granger, Capucine, Fabian and Ernie Kovaks in a very funny movie set in Nome, Alaska in 1901 during the gold rush. The other one is at 1:15 P.M. and is The Comancheros which also stars Stuart Whitman and Lee Marvin as Crow. This is a great western also and you don't want to miss it if you haven't seen them.
These movies may be at a difficult time for you so you may want to set those recorders. Also there are other times on this channel that they are showing so you can check your tv guide for those times. Enjoy!
