The Mustangs are looking pretty good, anchored by the foursome of Franks, Jones, Josh Gloston and James Haynes in the 400.

400-meter relay: WO-S, 41.88.

800-meter relay: WO-S, 1:28.1.
Anchored by Gloston, Franks, Haynes and Justin Thomas

And if interested.........1,600-meter relay
Anchored by Gloston, Mark Roberts, Ed Ivory and James Ross won with a 3:31.93

wow - 41.88 is smoking fast in the 400M relay as well as 1:28.1 in the 800M relay.. I love to watch a good, fast sprint relay. Such precision, nothing like it :)

I am confused a bit and forgive me if I am reading this wrong, but how do 4 guys "anchor" a race?

Gloston must by a heck of a runner - being a sprinter in the 400M and 800M relay as well as the 1600M relay.
On a related note - I always get a giggle when I read in a program and they list the 400M as a SPRINT - sorry guys - ain't nothing sprinting about 400 Meters ha ha:D

If you're good it's a sprint!

Silsbee's best 4X100 relay time this year is 42.02. Their 4X200 relay time is 1:28.26.

They are led by blue chip quarterback Jeremy Johnson. The '6 "2 190 lb. junior ran a 10.5 100 meter at his last meet and also had a best long jump of '22 "6 1/4. It was his first time to jump this year. He is the anchor on the sprint relay team.

No wonder we couldn't catch him in our playoff game this past season lol

TEXAS RELAYS

Giddings dominates sprints at Texas Relays
By Danny Davis

AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF

Sunday, April 05, 2009

Giddings now has its own version of the Golden Girls.

In their last outing before the District 25-3A track meet, the Lady Buffaloes dominated the Division I sprints at the Texas Relays, running to victories in the 400- and 800-meter relays. Senior Deserea Davis added an individual gold medal in the 100-meter dash, with a .04-second victory over junior teammate Asia Wilson.

"It's beautiful, it's a blessing," Davis said of Giddings' big Saturday.

Giddings entered both relay finals with the fastest preliminary qualifying times. In both races, the Lady Buffaloes built early leads and let the anchor-running Wilson pull away from the competition down the stretch.

Giddings ran the 400 relay in 49.10 seconds, beating Fort Worth Country Day by .79 seconds. In the 800 relay, the Lady Buffaloes posted a more comfortable victory, running the race in 1:42.61 and beating Ursuline Academy of Dallas by nearly two seconds.

Although the Lady Buffaloes were competing in the meet's lower classification, the team wanted to shed its small-school image.

"Even when they were announcing us, they said we were a small school," Wilson said. "I said, 'Hey, we're kinda big to ourselves!' "

Davis, Wilson and freshman Kayla Winkfield ran on both winning relay teams. Senior Keanna Winkfield ran the third leg on the 800-meter relay while junior Megan Bradley led off the 400-meter team.

Keanna Winkfield ran for a Giddings 1,600-meter relay that finished fourth.

Both Davis and Wilson said they were surprised by how the Lady Buffaloes performed at the Relays. Some of their classmates, however, were not as shocked.

"They were doing good all year. I knew they were going to take it in the Texas Relays," said junior Corey Brite, who finished first in the boys 100-meter dash.

It was cool to watch that team set the national record in the 4x200 at state a few years ago.
