UT has played football since 1893.

The following are states UT has NEVER played in:

1. Alaska - probably never will.
2. Connecticut - probably never will.
3. Delaware - probably never will.
4. Idaho but we did beat Idaho in Austin in 1949 42 to 7.
6. Maine - probably never
7. Michigan - maybe. We did beat Michigan in 2005 Rose Bowl
8. Montana - probably not.
9. North Dakota - probably never will.
10. South Dakota - very unlikely
11. New Hampshire - probably never
12. New Mexico - maybe. This is strange we never have played there with this being a border state.
13. Nevada - probably not.
14. Rhode Island - extremely unlikely
15. South Carolina - maybe.
16. West Virginia - maybe.
17. Wyoming - We are scheduled to play there this fall so this one should come off the list this year.

We played in Minnesota one time but we weren't at their best and they were winning the game in 1936 47-19. This is the only time we have ever played a team from that state.

We played Wisconsin only one time in history winning the game there in 1939 17 to 7. Strange we have never played them again.

We played in Illinois twice but lost in 1904 to the University of Chicago 0 - 68 and again to Northwestern in 1942 0 - 3.

We have only played a team from Kentucky twice and it was Louisville and we lost there in 1993 10-41 and won in Austin in 1994 30-16.

We have beaten Mississippi and Mississippi State several times but the only time we played in Mississippi State we lost 6-13 in 1991.

Regarding New York the only team we have ever played from there was Syracuse and lost twice to them and had a tie. In New York we got a tie in 1992 21 all and they beat us in 1992 31-21.

We have beat Tennesse several times have lost twice in Tennesse to Vandervilt in 1899 0 - 6 and in 1906 0-45. We did beat Nashville U there in 1902 11-5.

We have played Virginia only once in 1996 and lost 13 -37 but did win the year before in Austin.

Most of our wins and losses (and also ties) have occurred in the State of Texas.

Yes indeed bwd. In 1995 Texas played in Hawaii and won 38 to 17.

In fact Texas A&I in Kingsville (now known as Texas A&M - Kingsville) played Hawaii twice in the 70s in 1975 and 1976. Texas A&I won in 1975 43-9 and in 1976 56-21. In 1975 Hawaii moved into
Aloa Stadium and A&I beat them in their first game there. That was when A&I was winning National Championships in the NAIA. A&I had so many stars that the Hawaii program on its' list of players to watch on other teams simple said "The Whole Team."

One person who was visiting Hawaii noticed they had A&I on their schedule said "Man why did you ever schedule these guys. Darrell Royal wouldn't play them for anything in the world."

Yep that was when there was more NFL scouts runnin around kingsville than students.:D 74,75,76 probably the greatest run A&I ever had. Lots of pro players off those teams.

Coach Steinke (sp) didn't have to worry about admission requirements and could recruit just about anybody. He did get the Upshaws to play there and they were some good football players. I went to Southwest Texas State and I tried my best to always catch that game whether it was in San Marcos or Kingsville. I had a standing bet with one of the guys that went to school there and I don't remember winning that bet too many times.

In addition even though we have never played in South Carolina we did play South Carolina once in 1957 losing 27 to 21.
We have never played in West Virginia but did play them once losing in 1956 6 to 7.
We played in Utah once losing to BYU in 1988 6 to 47. We have beaten Utah and Utah State in Austin.
We never played in New Mexico but have beaten New Mexico and New Mexico State a few times.
We never have played in Wyoming but have beaten Wyoming in Austin in 1974 and 1978.
Regarding Kentucky I overlooked our big upset in 1951 where we won 7 to 6.

1951 UT had a good team but Kentucky played us and it was expected they would win but we pulled off the upset. Kentucky at the time was coached by Coach Paul Bryant.

Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant is considered one of college football's greatest coach but he had it rough against UT.

He coached at Maryland in 1946, Kentucky 1947to 1953, Texas A&M 1954 to 1957 and Alabama 1958 to 1982. He had great success at those schools.

But he had a hard time against UT. For example while at Kentucky we beat them when they were highly ranked 7 to 6 in a big 1951 upset. While at Texas A&M he beat us in 1956 but lost the other three years. At Alabama he tied us in the 1960 Bluebonnet Bowl 3 - 3 but we beat him three more times in the 1965 Orange Bowl 21 to 17 and two Cotton Bowls in 1973 17 to 13 and in 1982 14 to 12. That gave him an overall record of
1-7-1
In fact while he opposed A&M he had a 2 - 1 record.
While at Kentucky in 1952-53 he won one and lost one against hte Aggies and lost to the Aggies in the 1968 Cotton Bowl Game by the score of 16 to 20.

There was talk about UT playing Notre Dame for a couple of years in New York but I don't think anything came of it. It would have been great to have had some exposure there as far as maybe getting recruits in the East interested in us.

As UConn's program continues to grow, I could see Texas doing a home and home with the Huskies somewhere down the road.

North Carolina will make the trip to Storrs this fall, with Maryland, Notre Dame and Tennessee listed as future home games

That would be great to have a UT vs Connecticut game in Connecticut.

When UT was in the SWC, OKlahoma would really push it's schecule to an advantage in getting recruits.
I did a random survey on some years and chose a four year period from 1975 to 1978 seasons. During that time besides Texas of course UT played in three other states: Massachusetts, Washington and Arkansas. Over that same period besides Oklahoma, the Sooners played games in 11 other states including Florida, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Iowa, Colorado, Nebraska, Arizona, California and Ohio.

Of course Oklahoma had the advantage of having one game in Texas since that game is played in Dallas every year. Also the teams wanted to win their conference and UT"s conference champions had to play in the Cotton Bowl in Texas while Oklahoma could win its' conference championship and get to go to the Orange Bowl.

But as you can see when talking to 1879 prospects the Oklahoma recruits could point out that their players got to be seen around the country much more thus also enabling them to get more exposure around the country and see more of it.

Fortunately the advantage is not as much now that both teams are in the Big 12 and get to do out of state traveling.

Sometime in the early 1900s, Texas played Daniel Baker College and beat them something like 100-0. Daniel Baker College was located in Brownwood and later consolidated with Howard Payne.

Today UT played in Wyoming so that eliminates that state as one that we have never played in. The following are the 15 states we have never played in.

1. Alaska - extremely unlikely we ever will.

2. Connecticut - maybe especially with UCONN playing well lately.

3. Delaware - extremely unlikely we ever will.

4. Idaho - maybe. Especially if Boise State keeps playing then some interest may develope. Still slim but still possible.

5. Maine - extremely unlikely we ever will.

6. Michigan - maybe.

7. Montana - extremely unlikely.

8. North Dakota - extremely unlikely.

9. South Dakota - extremely unlikely.

10. New Hampshire - extremely unlikely.

11. New Mexico - maybe even though probably not too likely. It is a border state and is ironically the only one we have never played in among the states that border Texas.

12. Nevada - extremely unlikely.

13. Rhode Island - extremely unlikely.

14. South Carolina - maybe.

15. West Virginia - maybe.

Due to an oversight there is a 16th state and that is Vermont.
