What do you think about lifting weights on game days? not just for baseball but for every sport: golf, tennis, basketball, track...etc. Whats your opinion about it? I just don't see why anyone should, especially a pitcher.

I kind of think they need to lift weights before they start lifting in a Power Lifting Meet. ;)

our pitcher's don't lift on game days...
michael jordan lifted on game days...many professional athletes lift on game days...with adequate time to rest...4-5 hours, they should be good to go by gametime...

I believe Nolan Ryan lifted after games is that correct? And there was also that Dallas Cowboys football player, the BIG lineman who benched like 700 or somewhere around that before a game or during halftime?

Here's my take. If you lift a kid every day before practice where you get him grooved in, then why would want him to suddenly be fresher than usual and throw off all of the work you did all week to groove him in. If you lift before practice then you should lift before the games too. Just my take. I certainly do not let them over do it though. If you are accustomed to lifting regularly, then it isn't an issue because you will be able to recover in about an hour so long as you don't get carried away.

This doesn't make much sense to me. Muscles don't rebuild themselves in 4-5 hours if you actually do a workout. Why would you go into a game and already be fatigued?

No one lifts on game day here. If a kid is pitching we pull back his weights and sets the day before. During Football we do the same lifting we do in the spring.

I have heard of lifting the day before but I have not heard of an off season program that makes a pitcher lift the same day he is pitching. same goes for sprinters or throwers.

I know a LOT of professional basketball players lift after games.

I would never lift a football kid on a game day. Doesnt make any sense to me at all. I know nothing about baseball
