Well that was short and sweet, but at least it's a start. Got right at 3.5 10ths". Not bad, but I sure hope more is coming.

I ended up getting just shy of 1", but heard some got as much as 1.5", in 3 seperate showers. The ground was so dry, there are no puddles anywhere. It sucked it up like a sponge.

SWEETWATER (Abilene Reporter News) – In the midst of its economic rebound, the “fastest shrinking city in Texas” is proving its resiliency.

A long-standing drought that drove away agricultural producers and dried up water sources coupled with a struggling oil industry caused a significant fall in the town’s population and economy.

Today, however, new hotels have been built, a Walmart has arrived along with more restaurants, houses have increased in value and rental property has filled up.

Sweetwater’s population has now stabilized at 1,000 fewer residents than reported in the 2000 census. Consequently, school enrollment has rebounded, now at 2,250 students in Sweetwater ISD. The district had plummeted from about 2,800 students in 1997 to 2,100 in 2006.

A large reason for the rebound, locals say, is the construction of roughly 1,300 wind turbines in Nolan County and related work.

Although wind farm construction has slowed because of a lack of transmission lines to carry electricity to metropolitan areas, at least 20 wind energy-related businesses have sprung up in Sweetwater in recent years. The prospect of more jobs exists once the proposed transmission lines are built.

Jumps in the area population and job market have spurred appreciation in home values.

Typically, homes that were selling in the $100,000 to $125,000 range are now selling for $125,000 to $175,000. Home sale prices have grown from an average of $47,225 in 2000 to $84,625 in 2009, said Scott Morgan of Morgan Real Estate.
