What would make you suddenly not be able to visit a particular website? There's one website I frequent, but suddenly I am unable to get back on that website. I've been visiting that site for years. It won't even pull the site up! It just tells me that page is unavailable! What can cause this, and how do I fix it?

Maybe the host server is down.

Sites are hosted on different servers. If the site host server is down, no one would be able to view the site.

Example, if this 3ADL host server was down, you couldn't get to this site, but would be able to get to google because google is more than likely on a different host server.

No, not necessarily. Every once in a while, our router for some idiotic reason, decides to not load a site. For my husband, it's always the Pinnacle site....for me, it's pretty much the same football site every time. :nerd: :D

But that's the problem. I had a buddy check the site on his computer and he had no trouble getting on. Doesn't that eliminate that possibility, or not?

Yes, that wouldn't be the case then. If you are at work, did they add a new filtering system? Limiting what types of sites you can visit?

Also, is he viewing an old cache file of the site?

So what do I do? I mean somebody I know can get on the site from his computer without a problem. Why can't I?

If you're at home, turn off your router for a minute then turn it back on. If you're at work, look over your shoulder to see if someone's watching.  ;)

No. I can still visit porn sites.:D Just kidding. I don't visit them kinda sites, and they haven't added any filters or anything. I still have administrator privileges.:D

It would be pretty hard for somebody to do that being as I face the door in my office. I did that on purpose......:D

We haven't changed carriers or anything like that. I just find it odd, and frustrating, that I can't access that website. I mean, it just happened this week. I was on the website Tuesday right before I left work, came back the next day and couldn't get on. I even went back and restored the computer to a previous checkpoint to see if that might fix it. It didn't. I hope somebody has some ideas as to what it might be, and how I can go about fixing it.

If you are attempting to connect via a link in your favorites folders then it could be a fouled link. Google the site again and connect that way. If that works then save that new link to favs and delete the old one...........If at work you might have a filter installed such as Websense and a recent upgrade/change by I.T. dept could have caused it. (I speak from experience on this one)

I've tried to connect to the link from different home pages. That doesn't work either. They haven't installed anything new to the computers, either. Plus, I have administrator privileges. I'm at my wit's end on this one. It's frustrating me.

Don't know what sites you have trouble with, but I had the same problem with a local television station site a couple of weeks ago. I called the station and was told that the site was working properly. I then contacted a local computer person that told me to turn off the computer, unplug the router, and reboot both. He said that sometimes a site is cut off from the computer by a firewall that has hiccupped during a power surge or other event and the only way to fix it is to reset the firewall by turning off both the computer and router at the same time. One computer on a network can have the problem and another not have it because of different levels of surge protection. Try it an see if it works.

Clear your cookies

Farmersfan
02-20-2009, 09:36 AM
Like some have said, clear the cookies folder. Also clear all your temp internet folders(history) because once it reads the link you want to connect to it will load parameters from the history folder if they are there..........Other than this I have one other suggestion: "BOAT ANCHOR"!!!!! (JK)

What browser do you use is the question. on IE6 I recommend clearing cookies and cache(temporary internet files) on IE on the general tab in internet options and check your proxy settings to automatically detect proxy settings. You would find this on the connections tab under lan settings in internet options. Also check settings in the general tab to make sure you can update the page either automatically or every time you visit the page. Then close all browser pages, reboot, and reset your router. Then retry.

The steps are different for ie7 and mozilla but you want to do the same things in the same order.

install/run this

http://www.ccleaner.com/

then run this program

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

while your computer is restarting, unplug your modem and/or router - then plug them back in while your computer is rebooting

OH...and if you're using Internet Explorer...that's half your problem right there......I'd recommend downloading Firefox, Arora, or something OTHER than IE.

I'm sure my boss would love to hear that. If I can, I'm gonna reboot the router after work and see if that helps. For some reason I don't think it will...:(
