Axle Rose was great with G&R but he is far, far from being one of the best vocals. If based on just vocals I would say any of these would be a much better choice:

Roy Orbison
Elvis Costello
Bono
Michael Stipe
Freddy Mercury
Marvin Gaye

Not in any particular order....

The way he brought his style over to Audio Slave from RATM and made it work says alot about him as a guitarist. Also says alot about Chris Cornell for recognizing his style and allowing him incorporate it into his songs. Rage and Audio Slave are totally different bands musically.

I like the way you think, b4l. I'd pay good money to see that lineup (except for DD Booger Presley).

Here's one I'd like to see...

Vocals - Ann Wilson (Heart)

Guitar - Jimi Hendrix

Guitar - Phil Keaggy (best "little known" guitarist in the world - just ask Eddie Van Halen)

Bass - Geddy Lee (Rush)

Drums - Neil Peart (Rush) or the late Keith Moon (The Who)

Keyboards - Steve Winwood

Woodwind section - the original Chicago lineup
