Sinton Pirates Named
Army Strong Team of the Year
by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football

Sinton, Texas - February 10, 2009 – Dave Campbell’s Texas Football is proud to announce that the Sinton Pirates of Sinton have been named the Army Strong Team of the Year for the 3A Division.

The Pirates were chosen for this honor because of their teamwork, dedication, discipline, personal courage and integrity throughout the 2008 football season, values shared by U.S. Army Soldiers.

“Sinton gave the state one of the largest single-season turnaround performances in recent memory,” said Adam Hochfelder, general manager of Dave Campbell's Texas Football. “Their jump from a 1-9 record in 2007 to an 11-1 record in 2008 stunned South Texas and sent them to the third round of the playoffs.”

The award will be presented to the team at a time to be determined later this year by a representative of the U.S. Army and a representative of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

“The U.S. Army is recognizing the student-athletes at Sinton High School for demonstrating qualities similar to those exhibited by an Army Soldier, who is mentally, emotionally and physically strong,” said Captain Jose Garcia. “We expect to see some of these young individuals competing at the college level, or maybe even professionally in the future.”

Football players and Soldiers share similar values, such as teamwork, dedication, discipline and loyalty.

Save a stint with the U.S. Army 14th Armored Division in France and Germany during World War II, Campbell spent 51 years as a member of the editorial staff at the Waco Tribune-Herald. Hired by the newspaper in 1942, Campbell became sports editor in 1953 and held that position until his retirement in 1993. The list of accolades and honors Campbell has received stretches as long as his career.
