There is an interesting story at www.vernonrecord.com about her because she went to Hawkins Elementary School in Vernon. His grandfather was the manager of Popular Furnature and was baptized at First United Methodist Church. I guess we can add them to Roy Orbison and special prosecutor Kenneth Starr as famous Vernonites.

At what point did Roy Orbison live in Vernon? I know Wink, TX claims that status and even has a Roy Orbison muesum. This is not a challange, but just an old Orbison fan wanting to know more of his past.

He was born april 23, 1936 in Vernon texas...they didnt move out to wink untill after the war, that's when he was 13 and started his band, the wink westeners... he got one of his first paying gigs in mccamey at the mccamey lions club... he was later discovered on the radio in kermit texas....

Roy was born at Christ the King Hospital on Pease St. which has long since been torn down and is now the parking lot for the Bank of Vernon.
