Women spot naked, orange man on Katy Trail 8:25 AM CT

08:43 AM CST on Friday, February 13, 2009
By BENJAMIN GOODING / The Dallas Morning News

Two women saw a little more than they expected as they jogged on the Katy Trail in Dallas this week.

The joggers ran by a naked man painted orange around 11 a.m. Thursday.

“He was a terra-cotta color,” said personal trainer Nancy Cole. “I thought he was a statue. Who would be that color?”

Cole was on the trail with her client when they spotted the man standing completely still on the side of the path. As they got closer, the statue moved and they realized that it was a man, Cole said.

They flagged down another jogger and used her cellphone to call police as the man dressed himself and ran away. A police helicopter searched the area and two officers searched on foot, she said.

The women then continued on their morning jog.

Dallas police expressed concern over the incident. "This is very offensive and something that is not funny, not funny at all," Senior Cpl. Janice Crowther told KXAS-TV.

In the past two years, a handful of attacks have occurred on the trail, and police and trail supporters have worked to improve security.
