I say hurts, doesn't set you up for the playoffs well.

In tough districts the teams who make playoffs usually make deep runs but there are a lot of factors that can go into the deep playoff runs such as the luck of the draw and region factors.

I think it can help in that it builds up confidence

I would say look at past history. Ddi Carthage or Prosper play in a tough district last year?

Did Liberty Hill or Celina play in a tough district two years ago?

I could go on and on, but I think that a great team plays well and wins regardless of their district opponents. Of course Gilmer might disagree in 2006!

There are great examples of both. Abilene Wylie usually has pretty deep runs. It has to help that they have had to play against teams like Sweetwater and Snyder. But Wylie also made deep runs when their district included Merkel and Clyde. Over on the North side of town, Abilene High wasn't helped at all by being in a soft district.

I would say it definitely hurts... Gilmer and WO-S have the longest district winning streaks in 3A currently and both have performed less than expected since 2005

I would say be have at least performed to expectations with the exception of 2006. You not gonna win it every year no matter who you are. Hell, I would venture to say, before 2003 nobody, except for East Texas even knew who we were.
