Just heard a rumor that Brent Davis is going to the Colony near Dallas, so looks like he's leaving Sinton.

Don't know if he's interested or not, or even if they already found someone else, but I would like to see them give Gene Kaspryzk a shot. He does a super job as head baseball coach, and he's a class act. Has two state championships in baseball under his belt, plus many playoff runs. Can't argue with success. And I agree, Brent Davis is a super coach and should do well anywhere he goes. I wish him only the best!

Jim Mitchell has been elevated to HC/AD position at Sinton. Haven't met him yet, but his co-workers say he will do a fine job.

Mitchell was the DC so everything should pretty much stay the same. Most of the coaches should stay since Davis won't be takin anyone with him.

Mitchell has not been promoted. Good source says Gary Davenport may be headed back home. 2nd choice is Mathis Chris Soza. Mitchell is good defensive coach but has no experience for this big of job. Last time we hired from within it was defensive coach. Jim Bob Mickler. Need I say more. We need offensive mind.

Say pirate111 sorry about yalls coach. Anyways, about coach Davenport he is staying in Port Lavaca for a while and also Coach Soza well, he's not leaving Mathis because it will take alot to leave and the way things are going i don't see it happening. Anyways yall have a good team coming back so don't sweat the small stuff.

I'd just as soon see someone hired from within.Kids won't have to go through a crash course in learning different O and D.Besides if I remember right Mickler coached Sinton regional finals his first year and then had to go through rebuilding year the next season.Powers that be decided he shoulda had a better season and axed him.I think Mitchell would do just fine as HC.Why fix something that ain't broke.Old Green don't know about Arroya or Wilson.I'd like for them to stay but if they hire from outside like 111 has said it's doubtful.

As far as Davenport goes, even though he's a good coach, just as soon see him stay in PL and Soza in Mathis.

Was at the girls softball game last night. Mitchell is new AD/coach. Everyone was shaking his hand and wishing him luck. Don't know about the other 2 coaches Wilson/Arroyo...haven't heard anything.

If Mitchell is new HC, hope he finds an OC who will utilize the backs a bit more. No telling what Davenport could do with that speed.

Hey Pirate111,you stated that Mitchell was a bad choice for a head coach because he was DC.What do ya think Davis job title was at Cuero?Yep that's right Defensive Coordinator!

Is there a reason why Davis didnt take his staff with him. It would seem it would be a promotion for the staff that he brought with him to sinton

If Davis takes some of the coaches with him, it would be a shame for the Sinton kids. They've got a bunch of returning talent and if they had to learn a new system it would be even more difficult to have as much success as last year. Dang, Sinton can't seem to keep a great coach. That's life in south texas 3A.

Found this on Dave Campbells Web Site thought yall might like to read it.

Sinton's Davis tabbed at the Colony

May 13, 2002 -- Brent Davis is relocating more than 430 miles, but his job will remain the same after changing head coaching positions from Sinton (Class 3A) to The Colony (5A).

The 38-year old Davis replaces the only coach The Colony has ever had, Tommy Briggs, who died of a heart attack in April. Davis led Sinton to the 3A, Div. I Texas Bowl last season and was 43-9 the last four years with the Pirates.

After serving as defensive coordinator at Cuero, Davis started his coaching career at Banquete (2A), compiling a mark of 20-11-1.

Replacing Davis at Sinton will be Pirates defensive coordinator Jimmie Mitchell. Don't think for a minute that the Pirates peaked last season; returning QB Adrian Alaniz is among the best in Texas and will again have Sinton competing deep in the playoffs come late November.

In other coaching headlines, Wayne Coleman has left Beeville Jones for Brewer HS in Fort Worth and Keith Gardner will replace 200-win coach Bill Hunter at Centerville. One of the hottest names to replace Allen Wilson (now at Dallas Carter) at Tyler John Tyler is long-time Midland Lee assistant coach Kelvin Ratlif.

As I understand my information, Davis' son reportedly told his teachers that his dad was taking five coaches with him. Have not as of yet been able to confirm or refute this. This may just be a bad rumor. It was however the same source that gave me the first tip that Davis was leaving. Wife just told me that she saw Mitchell's interview on Ch.6 last night and he said everybody else is staying.

My source said maybe Davis was planning on bringing five people with him, but none of them were from Sinton. Sinton should be ok for next fall. Can't wait for football to start.
