got a key player back the other night, and will be making the playoffs again, I know the district is weak but these guys are pretty good. Granado, Cantu, and now Gonzales can all really play and put up 20pts on any given night...

Panthers rout Fabens, 76-37

Lambert Gonzalez made a solid return to the lineup for the Fort Stockton Panthers, scoring 16 points in the 76 to 37 routs of the Fabens Wildcats Friday night at the Williams Special Events Center in Fort Stockton.

"He really helps us a lot offensively on the inside," Panthers guard Trey Cantu said. "Look at how much we beat them."
Added Fort Stockton coach Rene Valeriano: "He's happy to be back and we're happy to have him back. It's a big boost of confidence."

The loss sends Fabens to 2-3 in District 4-3A, and 5-15 overall for the season. On the other hand the Panthers improve to 22-4, and 4-1 in District 4-3A.

"It's always good to win by 30, this is a plus for us, especially going into District," Fort Stockton coach Rene Valeriano said.

Joe Daniel Granado led the Panthers with 20 points, many of which were three pointers. Cantu followed close behind with 16 points along with Gonzalez contributing 16 as well.

Granado started things off with a three pointer to make the score three to nothing, and the Panthers ran from there. After Fabens scored two free throws the Panthers scored 23 unanswered points to end the first period 26 to 3, and that was the ball game.

By the end of the first half the Panthers were still on top with a commanding lead of 45 to 13.

In the second half the Panthers backed off a bit and with stronger play from the Wildcats the score was 52 to 20 by the end of the third period. Valeriano took the chance to play some of his younger players.

"It's good that we're getting some younger kids more playing time," Valeriano said.

The Wildcats struggled greatly through out the game committing 33 turnovers, 22 in the first half alone.

"We felt that they were weak in their guard play," Valeriano said. "They were really right-hand dominant so we pushed them to the left."
