Are there any hotels close to Reliant Stadium for a pretty cheap rate?

The cheapest rate I have found in general was Red Roof Inn by the airport, $40 a night and it's only 12 miles away, but something in walking distance would be nice.

NO....there isn't.....and just a little friendly advice....you wouldn't wanna stay that close to the stadium anyway. It's smack in the middle of the hood. And when you say Airport...if you're talking about Hobby...that's straight up ghetto too. Do yourself a favor and stay in Pearland....only about 15-20 mins drive from the stadium...and not ANYWHERE near as scary.

So do I just want to stay out side of the tollway loop?

PS...yes...this is outside the beltway (Tollway 8)...but you can literally see the beltway from the 518 exit on 288...I believe the beltway is the next "major" exit past 518.

That's Greenspoint - affectionately called "Gunspoint" by the locals.

So is Pearland the only city in the entire houston metro area you will not get mugged? Do I have to worry about being ran of of the Woodlands too because my car isn't fancy enough?

Emerson1

Less than $70 a night. Around $50 would be GREAT though! I need nothing fancy, it's a place to sleep.

I am finding plenty of places on expedia, but everything I find is apparently in the middle of a gang war

It was nice knowing you, emerson1. You were a vital contributor to the board. If you have any cool stuff you want to put in your will, get it done before the trip.

I've been to all of those places and greenspoint is better than across the street from reliant. I'm having to keep in mind you're a small town guy and some of what goes on in the big city - you're not prepared for. At such a tender age, you could be scarred for life. I initially thought you were flying into Hobby but I guess you're driving.

Call the Drury Inn and suites by the Galleria. Tell them you're with Nielsen Media and ask for the corporate rate of around 79 bucks. Don't try it online - you have to call.

I am going the weekend of Wrestlemania, so it's not like I will be walking in the ghetto all by myself. There will be 80,000 other people there and most of the hotels are booked anyways.

I have a good inside source though

The area around Reliant isn't that ghetto.

I've lived here for 6 months, and its been a pretty safe neighborhood. I go to Fiesta every few days. I walk across Brays Bayou over to Target every so often. My friend rides his bike all around this neighborhood. It isn't that bad of a place. You aren't going to get mugged.

Don't stay near Hobby, though. That is actual ghetto. I have heard of plenty of crime over in the Third Ward and surrounding area.

That's a good one. There's a La Quinta around the galleria too.

Bellaire is a really good area and only a few miles from the stadium. Don't know prices, but you should find something around there that's reasonable I would think.

I have a good source looking into getting me a room at the La Quinta for $30. Expedia has them booked but I sure something is available.

One thing about Expedia, Travelocity, Hotels.com, etc... they actually reserve a block of rooms and sell their blocks. So while Expedia might say that a certain LaQuinta may be booked, call that LaQuinta and look at other booking sites.

Reliant's not as bad as they make it out to be. I used to work for the Texans, the area's come up a lot. It's more working class than ghetto, but it's always best to be safe. Also, try Rice Village and (like BreckTX said) the Bellaire area. Both are right off 610 and a straight shot to Reliant.

Good luck.

That's a fun commute. Take the tollway as much as you can.

I believe he's coming for the week end so traffic shouldn't be too bad. All it takes is one minor traffic accident to change that...

I will only be traveling into Houston on Sunday and will make sure to leave 4 or 5 hours before it starts.
