West Oso pressure forced easy baskets. They must have been missing couple of players earlier in the year.

CORPUS CHRISTI — As expected, both West Oso basketball teams have made it to the second half of District 31-3A play with undefeated records, and have done so in a punishing fashion.

"We're starting to come into our game," West Oso boys coach Arnold Flores said Friday night after the Bears' 78-55 victory over Sinton. "We're starting to peak, and hopefully that carries over."

Boys: West Oso 78, Sinton 55

Sinton coach Jaime Boswell said it half to himself, half to a few West Oso assistants nearby.

"Man, if we had y'all's athletes" the coach muttered late in the third quarter, during one of many Bear scoring runs that broke open what had been a two-point game after the opening period.

While the Pirates (13-13, 4-3 in district) had size in the Harrisons (6-6 Josh and 6-4 Marshal), they could not match the speed of West Oso's Markeith Smith and Raymond Robinson.

"Our team did an exceptional job offensively and defensively," Flores said. "I think we're known for our defense, and that throws people."

After playing to a slim 16-14 lead after eight minutes -- which turned into a shooting duel between Robinson (nine points) and Sinton's Josh Rodriguez (eight points, including two 3-pointers) -- West Oso opened the second period with 14 straight points, forcing Boswell to use a pair of his timeouts to stop the momentum.

The Bears (21-5, 7-0) kept the pressure on the entire quarter, scoring the final 12 points of the half, all off the fast break.

Keara Lanehart tied her season high with 28 points, including the first 12 points of the fourth quarter, and the second-ranked Lady Bears improved to 23-2 (9-0 in district) with their second victory over Sinton this season.

The Pirates scored more than half of their total points in the first quarter, as four of their five field goals came from beyond the 3-point line.

Still, the Lady Bears led 26-14 after one period and held Sinton (12-13, 4-5) scoreless for all but the final three seconds of the second quarter.

Man the girls took a beating. Anyone know what the district standings look like right now for both the boys and the girls?
