Even with all of our problems, in our 200+ year history the U.S. has never had to deal with barbarism and ignorance like this:

The girl's quote at the end of the article was great. You can tell how proud she is to be from Afghanistan.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/01/22/acid.attacks/index.html we sold humans as property, decimated a native people, and suppressed rights of some races and sexes for quite some time, barbarically as well (ie Lynchings). We have come a long way, they have obviously remained static.
