Prayers needed

My sister Theresa Hartl of Port Lavaca suffered a brain aneurysm yesterday while visiting her fellow nurses for lunch. She as well is an RN at the hospital in Port Lavaca and was on her day off. She went to the restroom and when she did not return, they went and found her on the floor. She was very fortunate to be at the hospital when this occurred as they where able to administer care immediately.



She was life flighted to Herman Hospital in Houston and they placed stints in her brain to relieve the pressure. She is currently on a vent and the doctors also discovered major damage to the heart, so surgery to stop the bleeding on the brain is not an option at this time.

Her heart is continuing to fail......and her husband will have to make that decision....on Monday....

I am headed to Houston in a few hours.....I will update when I can..

Got to Herman Hospital about 2:30 this afternoon safe and sound. Went in to see my sis shortly there after.......it was hard to see someone that cared for so many the past 30 years being on the other side of care. The Nurses and staff at Herman are AWESOME!!!

Condition wise it is still not very good. The doctor rated the aneurisym as a 5 plus, with 5 being the highest. She is recieving tons of iv's to keep her heart beating. They are still hoping she will stabilize to have surgery to stop the bleeding, but are not confident it will happen. The doctors are coming in the morning and it looks like my brother-in-law will have to make that decision on which direction he wants to take.

I just checked the site that Ted provided...as of 4:00 yesterday, the pressure in the brain had not decreased and the Dr. will be meeting with the family today around 11:00 to decide which way to go.

The family met with the Doctors and have decided to not pursue any further medical .......upone passing her organs that can be.... will be harvested to allow Therasa to do what she did best....give life to others!!

I am headed to Port Lavaca to be with our mother...

1/21/09 10:40am Funeral Services are being planned. The details will be provided as soon as possible. The Family is planning to have a nursing scholarship fund setup in lieu of flowers.

Sorry so long sinse my last update, it has been a lot of waiting for things to happen.

Last night they found two matches for Theresa's kidneys. They had to wait for an operating room to open up (very busy hospital) and finaly one became available at around 10 pm, They finished preparing her for the surgery and where starting to transfer to surgury when a gunshot wound took priority over the room.

We talked to the medical center a few minutes ago and the harvest of the kidneys was successful early this morning. Theresa will live on in 2 peoples lives.

Funeral arrangements can now be made, should be known sometime this afternoon.
