Ponder wins 50th straight ... just 109 more wins to go

That would equal the national high school record for consecutive wins by a boys team. Passaic, N.J., once won 159 straight games. That record was set from 1919-25, so who knows what those basketball games looked like then. I wouldn't be surprised if Passaic won some of those games by a score of 4-2.

In more modern times, Valdosta (Ga.) Christian won 129 straight from 1979-84, and Wahoo, Neb. -- not to be confused with Wahoo, Fla., -- won 114 straight from '88-92.

The Texas record is 90, set by Snook from 1964 to '66.

Ponder vs. Whitewright in the Region II final may be the default state championship since Kountze is down a little.

Is 2A Region II still in Stephenville? The way Region II is moving eastward every alignment it seems silly to be keeping it at TSU. Volleyball region was played at Garland last fall.

Lake Dallas was the last team to beat them. Before that it was Princeton.

It's a very impressive streak Ponder has going. Out of all the classes in Texas though, 2A would be the classification most likely to see a streak like this happen.

I saw them play a couple of weeks ago, they win with fundamentals. No showboating at all with this team.
