If the ball has passed the line of scrimmage and is tossed back behind the line of scrimmage?

Yes. It can be thrown, but not legally.

I thought that was considered a lateral. You can pass backwards from anywhere on the field, right?

I think it would depend on whether or not the guy caught it and if so is he capable of throwing it......:D

Would not matter if the ball was tossed back behind the line of scrimmage or run back behind the line of scrimmage, once it has passed it, provided it was in possession when it does so, it cannot be legally passed forward.

In flag football you can run across the line of scrimmage then run back behind the line and throw it.

Great answer!!! Once the ball passes the LOS, it can no longer (legally) be thrown forward. All backwards passes and pitches are still legal.
