Victoria Metro. Is Victoria a Metro? South Central Texas close to the coast, but too close. Somewhere in the middle of Corpus, Houston, SA and Austin. Near a little creek but closer to a peach farm that grows pecans. Next to a Saloon that is falling down on the Highway by the the boarder of two counties. Whew! That's where I'm at!

I always heard horror stories from my Navy buddies.....I went as a civi contractor.....you worked, bbq'd, fished, drank beer & watched people attempt the "yard" and beat the heck outa each other at the Brit Club. It was a great time.

I loved DG. I was 21, no bills, no girlfriend to support, no worries in the world. I ate all of the fresh fish and langustinos I could catch. I even worked up to being able to run half marathons. I had a great time there.

I was there in 1977-78. It was considered primitive duty back then. Very few permanent structures, and we lived in screened-in seahuts that the Seabees built. But it was neat, I dont think it got above 80 or below 75 the whole year I was there....
