We were limited on what we could wear - NO PANTS until I was in the 7th grade - then we could wear "pant suits" as long as the top matched the pants and COVERED the "rear end" Couldn't wear jeans either. No open toed shoes. Dresses - we'd have to stand against the wall with our arms at our sides and the hem had to be LONGER than the end of the finger tips. (I got sent home alot lol - believe it or not, I pushed the envelope alot back then)
There was a tree out by the "back" parking lot and it was called the smoking tree and students actually could go smoke there between classes and it wasn't always Marlboros if you get my drift :) ..... Honest. :crazy1: :crazy1: :crazy1: (this was circa 1972- 1976 - totally different time than now for sure)

The science dept now sits where the smoking tree was.

There is still a dude ranch in Bandera. It's called Mayan Dude Ranch, and it's a really nice place. People come from all over the United States and Europe. It is a huge family business and is ran by the family of two of our posters from here, bulldogman06 and bandera7.

Most of those things were before my time. I have flashbacks a lot when I hear the Beach Boys or see Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Do you remember the Shlitz Little Bulls? I also had a few Silk Shirts and platform shoes(4" heels). Long hair and puka shell chokers. Big belt buckle with a marijuana leaf on it and a ink pen that when you turned it upside down the clothes comes off the lady. I just threw away about 100 8-track tapes and almost cried about it. Do you remember klackers? Glass balls on a string that you tried to smash to bits so peices would fly into your eyes.(JK) Even if you failed at that you could count on huge knots on your wrists from it. My mother still has my original Atari console with the Pong game, Tanks, Asteroids and Missile Command. Boy, the list is endless now that I start thinking about it...

Dang, Bullaholic! Feeling nostalgic, are we?:D

roadside produce stands - we still have them here in the sticks.:D
drive-in theaters - only one that I know of in East Texas.....and it shows porn only.
Real hamburgers - lots of GOOD hamburgers joints in East Texas!
Stuckey's - haven't seen any of them since the late '70s, I believe.:(
Burma shave signs - don't really remember them
Hare Krishnas - won't find any out here in the country.
Moonies - not sure what you're referring to
Hippies - still a few around.....:smoker: :D
Dude Ranches - we don't have any of those around here.....we just go to a buddy's farm and drink cold ones, eat venison chili, and fart around the campfire.
clip-on ties - used to have a couple of 'em when I was a kid....threw 'em away when I learned how to tie a tie.

The rest I either don't remember, or don't know, or......well......

:D

Oh yea! the roach clips with the big feathers on them. Some of the girls would use them as hair clips during the day and..........well "you know what" at night. Big glass Bongs could be purchased in almost any store. Exchanging class rings was huge back then. If a girl had your class ring you were steady and it was a big deal. These frequently became flying missiles during harsh breakups. I also remember that it seemed like a lot of people were using metal detectors back then looking for whatever.

I use to spend a lot of Saturday nights in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot in Spur Tx as a young man. Even then they didn't seem to do much business. Anyone remember listening to KOMA out of Oklahoma City? Driving around drinking Boones Farm or Little Bulls and listening to KOMA rock smoking Swisher Sweets and dipping Copenhagen. I still don't understand why it was so hard to get dates back then..........:(

We had a Piggly Wiggly 'til the early '80s, then Vinyard's bought them out. It used to be the best grocery store in Gilmer. We also had a Safeway which was nearly as good. Then Walmart came to town,....Brookshire's bought Vinyard's, then Safeway,.......and now we have to go to Skinner's in Longview to buy decent meat. I will NOT buy meat at Walmart, but I will buy it at Brookshire's in a pinch though I don't really like their meat.:dispntd:
