Shoplifter apparently had penchant for canned cheese

A Jasper woman with an apparent penchant for canned cheese was arrested on Sunday after she was observed repeatedly eating mouth-fulls of the aerosol cheese spread in a store.
Officer Mike Peters filed a report stating that he responded to the Family Dollar Store at 850 East Gibson Street shortly after 3:00 pm when the manager reported the theft. The report said the woman walked around the store while eating a can of Vienna Sausage, and squirting gobs of the canned cheese in her mouth before leaving the can on a shelf and walked out without paying.
Peters spotted and arrested 22 year old Ashley Dawn Maness on the parking lot. She later appeared before Municipal Judge Robert Jackson and pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor theft charge. After paying a $280.00 fine, Maness was released.
Peters noted in his report that this was not the first time that Maness had eaten cheese out of a can inside a store.
