There going, can't say much for the other teams, as district starts on Friday, but I have been to about 10 of our games and I get so frustrated. Up until this past Friday (a victory over Wharton) we didn't really play like we wanted to be there. We play horrible defense and there are still many growing pains with a first year coach who is stylistically different from the previous coach. We have some good size (3 kids over 6'4") and great atheletes we just need to get more out of them. Basketball in my sport of choice, so I would love some more discussion on it. How is the season shaping up down on your end?

I'm the wrong person to be talking about this, but...:D our boys are 2-1 in district. That loss coming in OT to Aransas Pass.

Oso is state ranked, haven't seen them play yet, but they are always very good.

Orange Grove is very scrappy.

Last year Falfurrias made the playoffs out of distirct 31, but right now they are 1-2 in district.

I don't think Mathis, Robstown or Ingleside will be much of factor this year.

The big surprise is Ingleside being 0-3 in district right now. Last year, they had a decent squad. Not sure what's going on there.

Needville appears to be looking pretty good so far.....according to the Houston Chronicle they're 11-1 ( although I think they've left out a couple of tourneys)....BUT....noticeable wins to date..2 wins over bi-district rival Sealy, 2 wins over 4A El Campo, a win over 4A Santa Fe and a win over district foe Brookshire Royal.....leading scorers are

Creed Henry 17.3 PPG
Bradley Porras 16.5 PPG
Cody Neel 14 PPG
Mason Brisco 12 PPG
Caleb Berry 11.5 PPG
Garrett Janke & Dylan Powell 10 PPG

GO BLUE JAYS!!

I watched Needville play at the Sealy tourny and they will sneak up on some teams in their district. Very well coached team who plays good defense and runs an offense. Nothing flashy just good sound basketball. I think they may even take the Number 2 spot from either Stafford or Sweeny if those teams overlook them. They play a frustrating type of game for those two run and gun style offenses.

I havent gotten to see our boys play a full game yet. Everyone seems to think they will win district.
Our girls on the other hand I have watched many many times. Good team but their inability to rebound will gety them beat in the playoffs. Give up way to many second chance points. They play good pressure defense and force a lot of bad shots. There are about 5 different girls on the team that are capable of scoring but the most impressive is a freshman starting since the begining of the season. Tons of talent and loaded with potential.

STAggie, give the Tigers time, tough to be athletic with not much bball skill on a bball floor against very basketball skilled teams. JMO. Their coaching staff will get them there. PJ Williams was one heck of a player in HS and in College, and he will help the young head coach get them going!!!

Way too early in any district race to be predicting playoff teams. Remember the coaches are dealing with teenagers with many things on their minds and have their hands full with many things.

I'm guessing they've probably played a 4A and 5A non-district schedule like they did when they were in 4A.

You're right...sometimes can prove frustrating for flashy "run and gun" teams. Ever seen Moulton play? Especially a handful of years back? Nothing flashy...but would dominate faster, flashier "more talented" teams. It was amazing to watch.

You didn't mention that those Moulton teams had Robert Tovar and defensively they pressed (He was the point man on the press) and ran quite a bit during the 4 years he was there. I would've liked to have seen them win three straight, but Brookeland wanted that win badly in the rematch. I still remember their coach saying after they lost to Moulton the year before that they would be back to Austin next year to win the championship.

I think they may have turned the corner this past Friday night. The most intensity I have seen out of the team and coach yet. I think they have a legit shot at winning district if they play their type of game and don't try and match what their opponent is trying to do. I know Dabney personally and he is a great coach and great motivator along with Williams, I know they will have the boys ready come Friday night for the district opener. Who remembers those Kountz teams from the early 2000s. Those teams could play some ball. How are they doing in 2a?

Kountze is still the same way, very athletic and could have a chance to represent the region. Good luck to the Tigers, I know a few on staff, they work hard. Watched PJ score 25 in a fish game, his pg had 40!! They had 107 as a team!! Led his team to the state tourney as a senior, special!!!

Didn't know that about Coach Williams. He is a good guy and has a darn good JV team. I am excited about district starting. The only thing that scares me is if we don't win district the teams we will most likely face could both be ranked in the top 10 come playoffs.

I've seen Bellville play and they look like an average team, nothing as special as all the Bellville poster were shouting about earlier in the year. The D25 race will be tight, but I have a feeling it will be a lot of sloppy basketball.

Its a role reversal between the two sports. Although Sealy only lost to Sweeney by 7 last night. They have really turned the corner and if they play that well they will run the table in D25.
