You know what's really, REALLY satisfying about winning by 31 against your 2nd biggest rival? It's that our coach, Damien Mobley, did what his old boss, Roosevelt head coach Stanford Hill, wouldn't do last year and call off the dogs early, REALLY early.

Velt beat us last year at Ellis Davis 103-50 when 7 of our top 8 were sophomores and the other was a junior. Our PG sat out the final three quarters of this one and it got so bad that we pulled out every single starter with 4 minutes left in the third (Our SG had 25 when he sat down with 12 minutes still to be played). We let our back-up 5, James Higgins, play point guard for the final 12 minutes and had no guards on the floor, just four back-up forwards. Higgins even knocked down a couple of threes for good measure. We could've one-upped Velt for last year and put 120 on the board, but we didn't. That win also brought another streak to an end as we had lost six straight to Velt and hadn't beaten them in basketball since winning our last district title in 2005. I think we ended every single lengthy losing streak to DISD opponents over the last four days...lol.

For those that don't know the unwritten rule in DISD athletics is if you can run it up on your opponent do it because the first chance they get they'll do it to you. Grant and Terry saw this in 2007 in football when we lost to Velt 56-8 and they were still running a no huddle with a minute to go in the game. It's really a lot more satisfying to know we could've ran it up, but instead showed mercy to an overmatched opponent who showed us none last season. :)
