A friend called me from the Sherman Tournament and said that Van Alystene was beating Celina 51-2 in the third quarter this afternoon. My question is......is Celina that much down, is Van Alystene that good, or did all the Celina players just come out of football?

VA beat Celina 75-21. I told a friend from VA the score and he said VA has a good team this year. I think the reason Celina is not good a basket ball most years is because they have such a long football season.

That's not the reason, there's lots of schools who are good at both. Celina just isn't very good at hoops.

I thought maybe a lot of the football players weren't in basketball shape yet. With us being in Van Alystene's district I was naturally interested in whether they were that good also.

Don't think it will be a runaway for anybody in district 10-3A basketball. We have some decent boys basketball teams.

Celina football RAH RAH RAH
Celina basketball HAH HAH HAH

:D :D

I remember a few years ago in Celina when their student section started a variation of this cheer (insert Argyle and swap the sports) I'm sure Celina's B-Ball team will be fine they have to many athletes not to compete.

We are not great at basketball BUT none of our football players are joining the team until Monday 1/5. The head basketball coach wanted them to rest up. So current results are skewed a little. I believe there are 3-4 football players that will start when they get there.

Basketball just isn't a big deal up that way. I remember watching a game in Celina a couple of seasons ago when they played a district game against Princeton. Princeton was really, really good and beat them handily, but the sad part was seeing so few people show up to support them. The same kids (It was mostly football players) that Celina fans would drive halfway across the state to watch play football were playing in front of approximately 25 people at home. While this is in no way unique to just Celina it was still disappointing to see them play in an almost empty gym.

No Celina plays Baseball and runs track. We do have some state titles at both. Problem is there are not a lot of thump thumpers here and some of those play on the football team. So we do not have a real team on the floor till January usually. If you look at our records we always get better as the season rolls along.

Celina bounced back and beat Texoma Christian, defending TAPPS 2A state champions, 62-55 on Tuesday in the consolation bracket. They were to play West next, but I don't know the result.
