The biggest matchups in the first round...

Desoto vs. Pinkston...Pinkston right now is probably one of the top 3 or 4 teams in DISD after beating Carter in their first district game. The two teams have already played with Desoto winning 45-43 I believe. Pinkston will win or lose this game depending upon how forward Corey Bradley does.

SOC vs. SA Madison...This is a game Madison should win, but SOC will be playing with a lot of pride and they don't want to get stomped in their own city by a team from San Antone, even if Madison is #1 in the state in 5A.

Carter vs. Lancaster...This is EASILY the best first round matchup as it has former Lincoln assistant and Madison head coach Ferrin Douglas against his mentor Robert Allen. The two played earlier this season and Lancaster won by 12 (68-56) at Loos, but Carter was still missing Jarvis Phillips and a few others who were still playing football. Coach Douglas played for Coach Allen in high school at Adamson so they've known each other for around two decades. It'll be interesting to see if Coach Allen sits out his best player, Dre Evans, who was ejected from the Pinkston game for arguing a call.

As a sidenote, Robert Allen is probably best known right now for having been the head coach at Seagoville when former Longhorn and current Blazer LaMarcus Aldridge was there. He is also the coach who put together the team at Lincoln that won the National Title in 2002. He left before that team had that season though, but he is the one who put together the team headlined by Bryan Hopkins and Chris Bosh.

Lincoln vs. Dallas Episcopal...Lincoln features one of the top three players in the country for the Class of 2011 in LB Nash (My money is on him being no lower than #2 in his class. The kid has an enormously high ceiling). They also have Jordan Williams who is one of the best shooters from distance in the state. Episcopal counters with PG Phil Pressey who is the son of former NBA player Paul Pressey. He'll be a part of the Class of 2010 and currently has offers from I believe Texas, Florida and Baylor among many others.

The biggest games thus far have gone like this...

Pinkston 61
Desoto 57

Carter 79
Lancaster 56

(Carter is going to win Region II so long as Coach Allen's team doesn't have one of their patented meltdowns because no one is better in the region.)

SA Madison 59
SOC 43

(That's actually somewhat respectable for SOC because they're down this year.)

Didn't find the final, but Lincoln beat Dallas Episcopal by 20.

If we find a way to beat Skyline in the 2nd round this evening for the first time in Lord knows how many years we are likely having a rematch with Lincoln. I'm sure the Purple Tigers are foaming at the mouth to play us again!
