It's $1.99 in Taylor as of this weekend; it may be less. I just finished repairing my truck that has been sitting for five months (I was in an accident), and I filled it up the day it happened for $4.89 a gallon and cost over $130 to tank up. I've got it down to a quarter of a tank and I'm about to go fill it up for half the price of what it took the last time I tanked up. I'm rather pleased, but in reality it should cost less than regular unleaded fuel.

When the feds started the low-sulphur diesel requirement is when the cost shot up. Supposedly, it costs more to make the low-sulphur stuff.

NF, diesel comes off the distillation column at a higher temp than gas. They both are part of the oil refining process. See the link.

I remember when diesel was half the cost of gas. In the late 70's and early 80's a lot of cars (even luxury cars) started coming in diesel. That is when the price of diesel shot up. I remember the truckers being very ticked off about it. (we all had cb radios back then)
