2. Prosper
3. Kaufman
4. Bellville
5. Celina
6. Cuero

Kaufman's definitely a team to watch in 2009. They had underclassmen all over the field, and Hughey is going to be a very special player when he matures.

No. He was a senior this year. The Dawgs lose most of their skill position players to graduation, but on the bright side for Carthage they get everybody but the center back on that offensive line that was so dominating.

I'd put Rockdale in there as well. They return 6 guys that started on offense and 9 off the defense.

Should be better next season due to the experience of a 9-3 regional team and about 25 or so Seniors next season.

Stay tuned....................

I'd also add Giddings to the mix. They made believer out of us by going on to face Carthage in the semi's. They should be very solid again.......

The only thing that could be termed dominating was Dewey Smith. Most of the damage was done outside not in the middle .

Now he is gone...big big hole to fill...
There is no doubt without Smith Celina wins easily...and CElina gets back most of the team minus McCartney and Charlie Waldrip

Will just wait and see on next year.

I would have to disagree. That offensive line was flat out awsome. Smith was also awsome, but that oline smashed us all night long. They were by far the biggest and best oline we have faced in a long time.

I noticed Sweetwater JV went 1-8 and Fresh went 4-5 what was the problem.

I was just surprised to see these numbers.

The Sweetwater Fresh did beat Snyder Fish 8-6 that always good for them. But I hear Snyder Fresh were really weak.

There is no doubt Gilmer should be ranked No. 1 going into 2009.

The apprehension among the Gilmer faithful arises from the fact that the last time this occurred was before the 2006 season.

But Aesculus, there IS a rule now, due to that '06 season, that says Gilmer SHALL not be ranked #1 in ANY poll until AFTER they win the state championship. That is according to the by-laws of the 3A Downlow community! I'm very optimistic and I just hope they can live up to the pre-season billing. I know they'll be good, but they still have to EARN that recognition as #1 on the field.;)

Let's just say that there is good reason to expect Gilmer, Celina, Liberty Hill, Abilene Wylie, and WOS to be near the top, like every year. However, look out for Prosper, Rockdale, Monahans, and Bellville to make strong runs in their respective regions.

My early darkhorse for winning it all in one of the divisions is Monahans.

87, you don't have to go back that far. WO-S wasn't picked to win district two years ago (we had a really young team), but still made it to the third round of the playoffs.

2005: semi-final loss to eventual state champs Wimberley 29-52
2006: area round loss to Giddings 13-21
2007: qtr final loss to La Vega 12-20
2008: qtr final loss to Gilmer 23-35
