I don't know what's wild about it. When you have the ball for 31 minutes as compared to 17 for your opponent you're probably going to get quite a few more first downs. Celina has a ball control offense that's going to rack up a lot of first downs. Carthage had a lot big plays which means they aren't going to rack up a lot of first downs.

Carthage only had 12 less rushing yards, but they had 45 more passing yards which means Carthage in fact outgained Celina by more than 30 yards on the night. Must have been a fantastic game though just from looking at the score. Stats often times will not tell the story of the game.

Celina also had 80 yards of penalties and Carthage only had 15. That will also skew the stats.

You don't get near as many first downs when you are scoring from 50 AND 90 yards...

Both offensive lines dominated the line of scrimmage, the difference was a -1 in turnovers for Celina, and too many penalties.

I guess it sounds good if you're trying to make the loss look better but any other reason than that is a little bit absurd.
