It's been a while since I've updated this...

So as not to get confused in adding in the '08 champs, I will wait until ALL state champs for 2008 have been decided since only 5 of the 12 have been crowned this year.

I will say that Prosper has increased Collin County's number to 19 overall already

Texas Counties Ranked by Most UIL Football Championships 1920-2007
(includes 6-man, 8-man, and 11-man 1A - 5A)

1. Collin - 18 (Plano, Celina, Wylie, McKinney, Farmersville)

* - Carter won it on the field over CJ and was considered an official state champ for over 2 years before the title was taken away.
* - Masonic Home tied Corsicana 0-0 in the finals but lost the game by penetrations and only Corsicana is considered the "official champ" making Masonic Home the only team to play to a tie in a state final and NOT be considered a co-champ

A little surprised not to see Grayson County towards the bottom of the list. I know Van Alstyne won at least one, Denison... and I think Whitewright or Howe may have even had a couple.

Nope... among UIL football teams, Grayson county can only claim 1 State Championship

1984 - Denison

Denison lost 3 finals in a row to La Marque in '95, '96 and '97
Van Alstyne lost in the finals to Blanco in '01

Sherman Douglas won a PVIL title in 1962

Out of the 5 Largest Counties who have yet to win a title my money is on Montgomery County to do it first what with the likes of both of The Woodlands High Schools and the Conroe Schools located there. Randall County would be next.

As sad is it may be, I can see the state going another 88 years without either El Paso, Cameron (Brownsville area) or Webb County (Laredo area) winning a title.

There's a definite gradient of more championships to less championships moving from northern Texas down to the border. I suppose American football is less and less popular the closer you get to the Mexican border, with the other "Futbol" becoming the sport of choice.

You might be right, Valley Football at least has a couple of titles to their name. El Paso football is so far behind the curve its not funny

Correction: Dallas County ranked #3 should be listed as having 14 (15*) state titles as I left out Cedar Hill

I can't edit the original post

Where does Morris County rank? The smallest county in Texas.

Daingerfield and Paul Pewitt..... 4 or is it 5 state titles?

So Collin, has tagged at least 1 more this season ... and has 3 potential left.

And ... this is off topic a bit, but still WOS87 stuff related. ;)

How are you power rating projections holding up through the whole playoffs?

I was pretty sure you had Celina winning.
Did you have Carthage and Prosper winning too?

Predictions for Week 15

Division I
Waco La Vega over Prosper by 5 points

Division II
Celina over Liberty Hill by 4 points
Carthage over Giddings by 11 points

My ratings had a win-loss predictive total of 63-15 going into Week 15

I went 2-1 this week so the total to date for the 3A playoffs for the WOS87 power ratings is 65-16 (80.2% accuracy)

That's actually MUCH better than my own personal picks

I've calculated the Week 15 numbers (but I haven't posted them yet) and Carthage leads Celina by 0.2 so my official prediction will be Carthage over Celina by 1 point
