December 10, 1951--- Juan Raoul Davis Rodriguez is born in Sabinal, TX

Juan "Johnny" Rodriguez was arrested in 1969 along with some buddies for stealing and barbecuing a goat. While in jail, he was noticed singing in the cell and was referred to "Happy" Shahan, who owned the nearby Alamo Village in Brackettville. Happy eventually introduced Johnny to Tom T. Hall, who gave Johnny a job in his band. In 1972, Johnny branched out on his own and the rest is history.


Happy 57th Birthday, Johnny Rodriguez! Thanks for many years of great music and hope your liver holds out for many more!!!!:)

He and his band played at Schroeder Hall many moons ago - some of his band menbers had to carry him to the van after the show.. but they put on a hell of a show....... :p

Sounds like the JR show I saw in Alice in '84 where he grabbed a bottle of Jack Daniels and chugged it in mid-song and then continued like it was routine
