At 6-6, 290, are you one of the biggest players in Class 3A?

I don't know about that, but I'm the tallest one on the team, I can tell you that.

With so many small, quick guys, is it a disadvantage to be so big?

Not really, because you can see over them and check what's going on. It's just footwork. Once you get the adrenaline pumping you can keep up with anybody.

What do you do if they try to cut you down at the knees?

Then you just lay on them. It works. Then they start going around.

Have you been begging the coaches to let you run with the ball or catch a pass?

Oh, no, no way. I gave that up in eighth grade. I was just like, I'll stop asking. At least I get to line up close to the tight end.

Do you have a nickname on the team?

A couple of kids just call me Big Man, but that's about it. They used to call me Little Bidel when my older brother, Jacob, was here. He's 6-7, he's pretty tall. I was shorter, so they called me Little Bidel. But I can still beat him up.

You also play baseball, but why not basketball?

I played freshman year, and then I just stopped. I just didn't want to play anymore. I guess I got burned out. Plus, in basketball, you can only hit somebody five times.

What's your shoe size?

It depends. For just walking-around shoes, it's 17. Cleats are 16 because I like them tight.

Everybody gets mad because I can just go to Eastbay and click on size 17, and I get really nice pairs for like $15, because nobody's buying them.

This week you're playing Liberty Hill, which beat Celina for a state title two years ago, when you were a sophomore. Did you play in that game?

I was suited up on the sideline. That was my brother's senior year. He's getting me pretty pumped up about it.

So this time it's not just for revenge, it's for family honor?
