WARNING - THIS STORY MAY LEAVE YOU DEPRESSED SO DON'T READ IF YOU FEAR TO DO SO!
A man walks into a country store. He has $4.00 in his pocket. He buys a soda and some other snacks and the clerk rings up the bill. The amount due is $3.01. He gives the clerk $3.00 and says "Don't worry. I have a penny."
He reaches for his coin purse and to his horror finds it is empty. He searches each pocket desperately trying to find a penny or at another coin but there is nothing. He is white as a sheet.
Finally in much sorry and sadness he gives the clerk the other dollar.
"Alas!" he cries. "For want of a mere penny I am now stick with a bunch of various change!"
