The OLD 17 3A "The Waco District"

Everyone wants to talk about the new "Little SWC" 2 3A but the old 17 3A in the old Region III, "The Waco District" was no cake walk.
There has been a team from that old District three consecutive years make the State Championship Finals.
Robinson D-1, 2006; China Spring D-2,2007 and now LaVega D-1, 2008.
It think this year we will finally get a State Championship out of it.

I would like to see some info on other Districts that have had a member in a Title game 3 years in a row. Probably has happened, not sure how many times it has happened with 3 different teams.

District 18 had Mexia, Crockett, and Groesbeck from 89-91, with Mexia and Groesbeck winning state. That was when there was only one division.

Sounds like a Question for WOS87.


He can probably tell us out of the current alignment, whic district has the most combined state champs and or appearances... also can probably tell su the record for consecutive in both of those as well.

Here ya go.. I posted just that on a thread earlier this year.

This doesn't really answer the original question but it lists the total number of state titles, state finals, state semifinals, etc. by the teams of each district in the current alignment.

Over half (17 out of 28) of the current 3A districts have TWO or less combined state titles to their name.

The problem with answering that question is that the UIL scrambles the districts every 2 years

So which district has the most titles?

That would be 2-3A with 15 State Titles combined

My guess for the best string of title appearances ever from teams from the same district would be from 1993 through 1999 during which La Marque and Texas City (both from the same district) won 5 combined state titles and made 8 combined state championship appearances.

La Marque made the finals 6 straight years 1993-1998 winning 3 of them 1995-1997

Texas City also won state championships in 1997 and 1999

That makes 5 titles in 5 years from 1995-1999 between the two of them

Out of the 6 teams remaining in the 2008 playoffs, Carthage is the only team that comes from a district consisting of teams that with their records combined, have never won a state title
