Bridgeport - your guys played a heck of a game, especially the first half! Kudos for leaving it all out there on the field. Be proud of the great season you had.
GREAT job, Panthers! Defensive adjustments were crucial and made all the difference. 38 and counting! WTG guys!

Well here we go again and Congrats to LH. What a season or should I say string of seasons .
Where ever we play the Bobcats will be ready and it should be a great game between 2 great programs and 2 great Teams.
Has anyone heard when and where yet ??

Congrats to Liberty Hill. I hope all the LH folks now know why we believe in our Bulls the way we do. Even without a RB, we still had the Panthers on the ropes the 1st half. But, your boys definitely took care of business the 2nd half when everyone in the stadium knew the Bulls were throwing the ball exclusively.
This Bulls team gave us fans quite a ride this season ending up with the best record in school history at 12-1 and only getting beat by the reigning state champions. We'll never know what the results would've been if we had been at full strength, but it was what it was and Liberty Hill demonstrated why they are the champs and 38-0.
Libert Hill has a great team and great fans, and we Bull fans wish you the best in the next two weeks.
I still think the slot-T is a bit overrated, but the Liberty Hill Panthers are for real!;)
Go Bulls!!!

Great first half bulls. Congrats on an awesome season.
By the way, Liberty Hill wasn't at full strength either, so what you see it was you would have gotten with two teams at full strength...

Congrats to Liberty Hill and good luck in the coming weeks.
Way to go Bulls, you had a great season. I am disappointed that our QB wasn't at full strength and the RB didn't get to play. That being said the outcome would have been the same, a win by LH. I just think it may of been by only 7 or 10 points.
I have to admit I was not that impressed with the LH defense. I was shocked by the speed and not in a good way. I did not think defensivley they were fast at all. Now on to the good stuff. The defense doesn't have to be fast when you have an offense that can't be stopped. When we got the two turnovers in the first half and still let the team that doesn't make mistakes come right back from being down by 13, I knew it was going to be lights out.
LH offense is a steam roller, its a helluv a system and that is why they have a 38 game win streak going. After the game someone told me that Celina would win easily next week. Thats a bunch of Bull. Celina will have sucess and will score alot of points. But LH will do what they do. 3 yards to the left, 4 yards to right, 2 yards up the middle, 4th down and 1, QB keeper for 4. YOU CANT STOP IT.
The Bulls only forced one punt and I would bet money that 9 times out of 10 LH would have normally went for it in that situation.
The only way to beat them is to score for score with them and somehow hope for a turnover or have the ball last. I don't see that happeniong this season..
3rd straight State Title is on the way to Liberty Hill! Good Luck, but you don't need it. Just do what you do.

Make mine fried.....crow, that is---Liberty Hill was all that we heard they would be last night, and I offer them congrats for the win and eat my share of the crow.
The Bulls just gave LH all they wanted for a half, but just couldn't match their consistency in the second half. Hats off to a great LH team who fell behind in the 2nd quarter but came back for the go ahead points at the half, and then held the Bulls scoreless in the 2nd half while scoring 20 pts. of their own. That is what champions do, and what LH did. LH brought a big crowd and they never quit cheering their team on for the entire game.
Best of luck to the Panthers against Celina next week.
I want to say again how proud I am of this Bulls team. They clawed and scratched their way to the state quarterfinals, compiled a magnificent 12-1 record on the way, and played some of the best football I have ever seen a Bulls team play. These players go out with their heads high knowing that they never quit and made their entire town proud of them on and off the field. They will be back---next year looks very bright and I can't wait for August already.
One of the bright moments last night for me, was the big M&G we had a halftime and I had the pleasure of meeting many of 3ADL posters for the first time. I apologize for not being able to visit with more of you individually as we had to hurry to get the M&G pic made before the half was over. All of you are great folks and I really enjoyed the brief visit.

What a game! It was worth the $8.
Congrats to BP. What an O. The QB has ice in his veins...and a huge heart.
What a turn around. The 2nd half adjustments by the Panther O and D was spectacular!
This was a fun week that culminated into a very good football game.

Interesting...One BP poster says the LH offense wasnt that impressive, but the D was incredible...then another says he wasnt impressed by the D of LH but was blown away by the offense of LH...same game, two different takes on it. Funny how this works, right?
BP, you guys gave it a great shot. You played them as an equal for 2 quarters....I dont need to tell you that you have to play LH that way for the full 4 quarters if you want a chance to win. The LH coaches obviously made adjustments on you that were the killer. This is what experience in big games does for you...I really think part of your failure to beat LH falls on the coaches for not countering these adjustments. But, to be honest, you shouldnt be too hard on them...after all, its LH!!!
I look forward to keeping up with you guys next year...come back strong, and we'll see you then!

Bridgeport, I believe, surprised LH with the way they kept responding after LH scores in the first two quarters. But the key was the halftime adjustments and the late TD before halftime. Here are some observations:
1. Bridgeport could not execute the bubble screen in the second half. The ball took too long to get to the receiver.
2. The lack of a running threat meant LH could tee off on the Bridgeport offensive line and get pressure on the QB.
3. The touchdown right before the half by LH was just killer for momentum. But how in the heck do you allow the receiver to get behind you with less than 40 seconds left? That was inexcusable.
4. LH was methodical on offense and never relented. Converting 4 of 4 fourth downs had to be demoralizing.

First of all, congrats to Bridgeport. You guys have an excellent football team and I wish we could have seen it at full strength. We know what it's like being without star players in the regional finals against a formidable opponent. It happened to us in 2005. It's not just losing the player that hurts, but the toll on your team's psyche. I thought the Bulls did an excellent job of coming out and competing. Hats off to your players and coaches.
My takes on the game...
Offensively, we did about what I thought we would do. I didn't think Bridgeport had the defense to stop us, and they didn't. They played great and stuffed plays throughout the game, but couldn't stop everything, which is what makes our offense tough to defend.
Defensively, we got off to a terrible start. Someone earlier in the week brought up the fact that it had been over eight weeks since we had seen a formidable passing attack, and that showed early. You can't simulate a passing attack like Bridgeport's in practice, and it took our guys about a quarter and half to adjust. I think our defensive coaches also did an amazing job of adjusting the gameplan when it became apparent early on that the Bulls would abandon the running game for an empty backfield. I said if we could make the Bulls one dimensional (or have them choose to be one dimensional), it would be to our advantage, and once our players got acclimated to their offense, that was the case.
Overall, it was a good game and very fun to watch. We haven't trailed by two touchdowns in a game since our last loss (Wimberley in 2006), so our guys showed amazing resolve in not panicking and continuing to play our game. Our coaches, especially our offensive coaches, also showed great patience in sticking with what we do and not worrying about the scoreboard. We're playing really good football right now and I hope that continues next week.

I was informed by someone who knows better than I this morning that I was wrong--it wasn't the LH defense that got us, it was their unstoppable offense versus our injury-laden offense that absolutely killed us. Some of the LH posters earlier were talking about how people get fooled watching the LH offense, and I think I fell into that trap. In Bport we're used to finesse play with spectacular passing and "glory" runs. We haven't seen a whole lot of teams who are content to move the ball slow and steady like LH, so I think I didn't give them nearly enough credit. Meanwhile our own offense was hobbled, as our QB couldn't move well enough to pass and our go-to RB didn't play at all.
And please don't think I'm trying to take anything away from LH. Even with an injury-free team, I'm not saying we would have for sure won. But I do think there might have been a slimmer margin of victory.
Some other things I didn't mention last night (or technically, this morning, since it was still the wee hours when I posted): I thought the LH crowd was GREAT, and the band was fantastic. A real asset to the team. As always, I thought the Bridgeport fans showed up--it doesn't matter how far we have to drive, we're going to be there, and we'll make ourselves heard. And thanks to all the other Wise County towns who were there--I think I saw pretty much every town in the county represented.
Good luck to LH next week! Hope you guys have a great game. :)
(But I gotta admit I'm rooting for both Celina and Prosper to represent North Texas and make us all proud!)
On a completely trivial note, did anyone else think the water in Waco was TERRIBLE? I had a Diet Coke before the game, a Diet Dr. Pepper after, both fountain drinks, and they had the same horrible aftertaste. Blech.

A lot of the Bridgeport offense and defensive players were limping around after the Monahans game. I am not being my usual smart...., but seriously I think some were dinged up for this game. I am not suprised that the tailback was out, it shows heart that he attempted to play at all because we left the game last week thinking he was out for the season. I would have love to have seen my green machine go against this Liberty Hill bunch. Monahans had 403 yards on Bridgeport and the following week LH had 450 on them. Would have been wing T vs. slot T. Two very strong running teams that put up some yards on a good defense. Two good running teams that can also throw the football when they need to. Odds are LH would have taken it but it would have been a blast to watch, too bad things turned out the way they did, except for LH,. They belong to be right where they are. I have never seen them play but I hope they go all the way. I wonder how many spread teams like Bridgeport are still in it? Any idea? Congratulations Bridgeport on your best season ever and contrats to Liberty Hill, go get one more ring!

Celina runs multiple formations, but the running game is still their bread and butter. Giddings runs the flex-bone and is 99% run. If my memory serves me well, Carthage will spread it out and can run and pass effectively. I would say they're like Bridgeport with better athletes.

A few thoughts.
I've been worried about this game for about 8 weeks and as it turned out for good reason.
On BP Defense: Exactly what I expected. Accurate passing, fundamental. On defense #35 and #20 both played very well, but as they learned 2 guys can't get it done against LH. #20's hit on LH's #22 that caused the fumble was a true slobberknocker!
BP's Offense: Surprising that they gave up on the run so early. Brownwood has the best passing O that I have seen in a long time, but because they couldnt run the ball it cost them. The only problem for LH in that game was that the B'wood D was so bad that we couldn't milk the clock so everyone kept scoring. When you dont run you force your team to be perfect in the passing game which is almost impossible.
LH D: Once we went to a contain scheme and stopped giving up the big play it forced a hobbled QB to throw more, move more, and therefore gave our D line a chance to get after him. The big O line theory doesn't help much against the quick fly to the ball D unless you can run some.
LH O: I won't go there, everyone already knows.
BP: Great effort. You have great kids over there and classy. I am now a big fan of BP football, the same as I became a fan of Celina after the 2006 Championship game. Coaches can do a lot with kids but you can't coach class, only parents can.

I gave my props to the Bulls but I want to give my props to my Panthers now.
The offense I thought did what they always do. The line did their job as usually and although you guys don't always get the credit it is because of you that we do what we do. Great job line. Braden did a great job running the offense and ran very hard. I remember when the coaches wouldn't let you run and now you have become a running Qb and you turn the three-headed monster into a four-headed one. Also nice job shaking off the interception and making a huge strike just before the half to keep us close at the half. And the guy who caught that ball (Woodbury) awesome year man. You are quickly becoming a go to reciever on this team. Keep up the good work. Ryan keeps plugging away to get those tough yards when we need them. And he never gives up. Boyd didn't have as big of a game as last week but that happens. He made many big runs for first downs and took some tough shots from those linebackers of Bport. Way to keep running hard. Matt this was the best game I've seen you run the ball all year. You ran hard and with great determination. That is the way to do it. Don't ever let up and keep doing just what you did Saturday night. Great game offense.
Defense, you guys made the adjustments that needed to be made and you shut that high powered team down. It does seem that as a unit you are maturing every week. Just keep that up. I liked the pressure you got on the Qb and you made his life hell. It's hard to name everyone on defense but I have to name one guy. He was my MVP of the game. Ryan Cox, man he had a career game. Two interceptions and 3 huge pass breakups and not sure how many tackles. You took over out there and shut your side down. Keep that up and you will get your ring.
Panthers thanks for the effort you guys put in every week. Stay humble and work hard you are almost there to get your third ring.

I predict 10-0 and a speciall playoff run. I will say this if Monahans does not beat Sweetwater next year I will absolutely flip out. Specially after the way our JV and fish dominated them man if we dont get it done. I will start believing there is a curse.
Last 2 Lobo wins over Stangs '93 my year in the bowl and '89.
Loboes gotta get it done I told many Monahans people after this years loss to Sweetwater 17-14 that this will be the last time Sweetwater beats Monahans during the Owens era.
One thing about Monahans to remember yes they gots lots coming back next year the entire secondary, def line, and many from the offense including QB, another undefeated JV and some great Freshmen that some played in playoffs. But it is a OIL town and we need the economy to pick up or we will lose numbers again.

Well, I am not going to be the official spokesman for the Bulls on this one, but I believe...
A.) the starting running back had a hamstring injury on the last third down of the Monahans game. He was suited up for last night, but not really available.
B.) the backup qb is also a good running back, but spent almost the whole week working at qb because...
C.) QB had an injured ankle. He was a vital part of the running game.

Yeah, i was aware of all of that but for a team that has enough talented kids that nobody plays both ways i would of thought you would have a guy to step in. Thats ashamed as obviously not having one guy and another gimpy it doesn't help. Of the 2 i was surprised that the Rb showed up at all with the hamstring as that is nearly impossible to overcome. Ankles hurt but are easier to play with.
Great game anyway.

Okay... time for the slpybear to stop watching the Boys play long enough to post some kudos...
1.) Liberty Hill... my hat is off to you guys after that game last night. We have watched many programs over the years and yours is definitely one of the top notch programs I have seen. Some things that stood out in my mind...
relentless offense
great play selection on offense
great fan base
players kept their focus, even when down by two touchdowns
2.) You have heard a bit of chatter about injuries from our fans... this is definitely not any excuse on our part. We are just really dissapointed we could not have given you our best on offense that we had available all year long.
Our offense has been extremely balanced all year long, with a terrific running game led by the younger brother of the QB. The second key prong of that rushing attack IS our QB. Both of those rushing weapons were eliminated by injuries... our RB with a hamstring injury and the QB with an ankle injury. To make matters worse, the ankle injury affected our QBs ability to get a lot on the ball when he through... so in addition to both prongs of the running game disappearing, we had a bit of a tough time throwing the ball.
As several folks from LH and Bridgeport have already mentioned... It was pretty apparent by half time that LH could adjust and begin pinning the ears back on their DLine and dropping everyone else back into coverage. I believe there were only three rushing attempts by Bridgeport plus one scramble.
NOT an excuse from this Bulls Fan or anyone else here.... we were just very, very sad that we did not have the majority of our offense for the game. We think it would have been closer... certainly would not claim it would have won the game for us.
3.) good thoughts and prayers for the LH player that left the game. I read where they are already talking surgery? Hope that it all repairable and he comes back 100%.
4.) the M&G was a blast! So glad to finally get to meet lots of our Central Texas members.
5.) It was a tremendous playoff atmosphere at Floyd Casey and felt priveledged to get to attend. I hope all the fans made it safe on the way home. (BTW... I hope none of our fans were involved in that nasty wreck on the overpass heading back to I35.)
Well, it was a great run... soooooooooo proud of the Bulls this year!
Good luck to LH!

He's a senior. I haven't had a chance to ask if it was a new thing or not, but he got hurt in the Wimberley game & missed a big part of it, and the Llano game until he got his brace, so surgery has been in the plan for a few weeks. Youngest son said he was walking on it after the game, so hopefully will be good to go this week.
Injuries for any team & player are always tough, regardless of whether it's "your" kids or the other teams'. I hope the Bridgeport players heal quickly. And for any kids who fight through the pain each week to be on the field, many kudos to you.

Good Post. Liberty Hill fans know the feeling. We also lost some players for a Quarterfinal in 2005. It is not fun to lose a game when you know you could have done better with all your guys healthy. Good luck to you guys next year.

Wow, what a great atmosphere last night. It was so nice to meet everyone at the M&G and to see all the fans from Sweetwater. Congratulations to BP on a great season and I hope they can build on the success of this year.
I especially feel for Bullmom(?) or any other parent with a kid on the team last night. They played their hearts out. Remind them that a game score doesn't define who they are but it's how they handle adversity that says everything. Hopefully we'll see yall again (how about the Celina game?) That should be a huge one.

I think slpybear captured the essence of the bottom line from last night's game. I certainly echo his praise of the Liberty Hill team and fans. They have established an outstanding program, and continue to reap the benefits. Good luck for the rest of the playoffs.
We all have to play the hand dealt us, and, unfortunately, the untimely injuries to the Bulls' starting backfield in the Monahans game reduced the team (which had been evenly balanced at about 250 yards rushing and 250 yards passing) to a one-dimensional offensive team last night. Even so, the QB Cameron Green was operating at a fraction of his capabilities. Normally he is a fine runner, but last night could not run, and as slpybear said, also had difficulting in setting up and delivering the ball.
Liberty Hill made some good adjustments at halftime, certainly made a lot easier with the knowledge that the Bulls neither had the ability nor the intent to run. The Bulls' normal running game would have certainly also made it a lot easier to open up some passing lanes.
I think slpybear said BP only had 3 rushing attempts. That's unbelievable, but it sure sounds right. And I think at least 2 of those were end arounds. I have to say I am surprised by what this suggests.....that there was absolutely no back-up to Corbin Green that the coaches thought offered even a slight chance of success in order to take some of the pressure off the passing game?
I'm not criticizing the coaches...just perplexed that there apparently was such lack of depth at RB. During the season, it was fairly common that Coach Henson would clear the bench in the 3rd quarter, and about all that remained was mop-up work. And so it wasn't really very important that they generated a lot of offense. But I sure remember some attempts being made by back-up RB's.
Not making excuses...just wish all of us could have seen a fair fight. And any event, my hat is off to Cameron Green. That kid is a gamer.
Congratulations to all the Bulls! They had to know coming in that they were going to be severely limited, and there was no back-up in any of them.
Liberty Hill is as advertised, and it was a pleasure watching the way they went about their business.
Some of our kids played the last football game of their lives last night, and I know it was a hard way to go out. But hopefully, they learned some things that will help them in the greater game of life that lies ahead.
May they have the same dedication and effort in that process. If they do, they will do just fine as they grow into adults in our society.
It's been a good year.

As promised, one post with a few thoughts.
First, congratulations to LH and their players. You have an incredible program and I was very impressed.
I too was sad to see that our RB was out last night. With that said, I really do not think it would have affected the outcome. Perhaps we would have scored a couple more touchdowns, but I'm sure LH would have kept pace. Our RB doesn't play defense, and the truth is, outside a couple of turnovers, we could not stop that offense at all. Speaking of that, what an irritating and frustrating offense to watch as an opponent.
I knew when we got to half time with a +1 in the turnover department and clicking very well on offense and were down by one point that we were in trouble. Incredible adjustments at halftime led to a dominant second half by LH. Has anyone mentioned that they outscored us 34-0 after being down by 13?
The officials were fine overall. Two bad calls, one each way that sifnificantly affected the game. First, what a terrible call for block in the back on LH on the extra point attempt that was returned. The other was the personal foul against our #35 after a critical stop on 3rd down that would have left LH with 4th and very long. Overall, no affect on the outcome.
From my perspective, the MVP for LH was the CB #1, Cox?, who broke up a handful of deep balls that could have changed the game in a hurry.
Now I am left trying to decide who I want to win next week against Celina. I will let everyone know since I know you will all be checking hourly to find out.
How's that for eating my crow Daddy Deez Nutz?

The call was not a block in the back. It was blocking below the waist on a change of posession. That's illegal.

And the Face mask was a legit call. He grabbed and moved the ball carriers head... then released quickly. Unfortunately, with no more 5 yd facemask calls... it was a 15. And a killer.

I will gladly stand corrected on both plays. Guess I missed the facemask on the replay, I thought they called an unecessary roughness type penalty. Also, didn't realize the call on the extra point return either. So, turns out the officiating was close to perfect which is always nice. The better team won.
Also, hope that dude with the knee injury gets healthy, he was a very good player.
Daddy Deez, I hate crow, but will eat it when it's the only thing being served! LH was exactly as advertised. Hope nobody took me too personal last week, just having fun.

To the Bridgeport Bulls and fans, you guys are a very class act and have a group of kids that play with all the heart and soul of any team I have ever seen. They came on the field determined to make LH earn everything they got and never quit trying. I too would have loved to see the running back play and seen the QB be completely healthy. I think the game may have played out a little different, but I don't think it would have changed the winner.
The Bulls have nothing to be sad about though, they have the best overall record in the history of their school, they have established a standard for all Bull teams to follow, and they have a great fan following that will be behind them from now on.
To Liberty Hill Panthers and fans, what can I say. In the first half I was in shock that you fell behind by 13. I was beginning to get a little worried. Then, it was like the Panther players and coaches had a reality check. The defense became a wall and the offense began to click. Everyone knew the offense would drive the ball consistently, but many people just don't realize how good the defense is. If they ever doubted, they learned what good defense from the front line to the safety is like last night. Against a pretty good offensive machine, they shut the door and took control of the game. The offense just chewed up time and made drives count with scores.
Bridgeport found out that the hype about LH is more than hype, it is a true pleasure to watch the precision and patience of that attack. They also found out that LH has good athletes that play within that system with discipline. And Bridgeport and Liberty Hill found out that the this was a game between two very good programs, one well established and one up and coming, that has a fan base that is 100% behind their young athletes. Bith schools and fans are class acts and both will be back in this position again.
Good Luck next week to the Panthers. See you next year in the playoffs to the Bulls.

Just like to jump in here on Monday morning and say again how much I enjoyed trading posts with everyone on this thread and meeting some of the great LH fans---they are class folks who really love their Panthers and believe in them very strongly.
I hope the Bulls will be able to enjoy wearing one of those rings one day. Best of luck to the Panthers against Celina.
BTW--I ordered up my crow helping earlier in this thread, and I'll gladly eat another portion anytime my Bulls are in the running because I am going to support and talk em' up 100% against all comers, all of the time.
Everyone looked great in the M&G pics and I hope to be able to put it up on the photo thread sticky in the non-sports forum shortly. Again, it was pleasure meeting and carrying on with you all at the M&G.

It was great meeting everyone from Bridgeport. Let me know if I need to bring any peanut butter cookies to the Celina game. I promise I won’t forget.
Wow what a great game. It’s what you expect when playing in December. Was really impressed with #20 and #35 (hope I got the number right). Bulls played with a lot of heart. Definitely one of the best offense teams we have played. Good luck to you guys next year, you got the ball moving this year now you just have to keep it rolling.

Thanks again for the nice words. It was a true joy getting to meet all you LH folks and all the others at the M&G. Although my son played his last high school game last Saturday night, I'll still be backing the Bulls and hope to see you all next year in the playoffs. After all, our JV was 10-0 and should provide some pretty good firepower for next year's team.

I've been thinking about this a few days, and while I'm sad we're done, I'm also happy and proud of our team. What a year this has been. And thinking back on some of the comments made about the team. Smack talk aside, most of the posts about the Bulls have been complimentary about their skill and their toughness, but I've seen more than that. Coaches who mentioned that although this team isn't the most talented we've had, they're more a team than we've had. The poster from another town who said Bridgeport will knock you down, help you up, then knock you down again. I think our boys have always acted with class and integrity and played from the heart, and I truly believe they are fine upstanding young men. And as such, there hasn't been a year when I've been more proud to be from Bridgeport or more happy to bleed maroon. From this diehard BullsFan, thank you for the wonderful year you've given us. Well done, boys! :)
