I am with you tonight. I am having to patch an SAP system, so no game for me. Just process after process after process.

So I will be listening and thread watching with you.

By the way, the Giddings-Bellville game feed sucks. It cuts out, takes a minute or more to rebuffer, then when it does come back on, it jumps ahead every 30 seconds or so to catch back up. The first quarter is nearing completion with Giddings driving into the Bellville territory. They've already stopped the game once because of players mixing it up and have talked to both teams and head coaches.

Agreed. Everybody knows LH will play lights out, and those boys wont quit, ever. And if Bridgeport is good enough to take down the purple machine then, well you know they're good. You guys talk to whomever necessary, but make sure they play the game next week on Saturday so I can make it! That'd be great!

plus Kaufman's offense is pretty basic

but they also haven't been tested by a great offense yet in the playoffs (that will soon change)

Last year we were up 42-14 at the half of a regional final game and also had a 42-0 lead in the 3rd of a semifinal game...and I'm sorry for bringing up the regional final game. That was actually a good team we were facing. Pleasanton was about like Kaufman, I would imagine.

I had you guys picked to beat Pleasanton by 40 or 50 points... just like I had Celina to beat Kaufman by 30 or 40. Celina will most definitely be facing their fiercest competition yet in the Semis but BOTH LH and Celina have showed in years past that they can come out of a weak region and win it all.

Celina did the same thing to Argyle a few years ago - they went up 48-0 and went for 2 pts to get to 50. I guess the lesson is to play defense and stop them.

Congrats to Celina... 50 points or more in ALL 4 playoff games to date.

No matter who the opponent is next week, it should be a great game. You're guaranteed of facing the only remaining undefeated 3A team in the State.

Congrats to the Bobcats, they really seem to be peaking in the playoffs. I hope the Bulls get the chance to play Celina next week, but we have to beat No. 1 LH tomorrow night before we can claim that honor---and that will be a tall order.

Look, there are people on here that just want to find a problem with Celina.

I thought they would have been happy with 3 regular season "L"s

They can all scream "HURRAY" next week if Celina bows out.

But, you and I know there was a perfectly good reason and the Bobcats didn't do it to be sorry.

It could be just as simple as, Kaufman had been cheating off of a balanced extra point defense in attempts to block the extra points ... or ... Celina's kicker had issues and was not available (it was cold tonight).

There must be an explanation - although it was cold all night and I assume Kaufman was trying to block the first 6 extra points the kicker made...Seriously though, Great joCelina - 9-3A is looking good!!

I was there and I thought the main reason was that the Lions were getting close to hitting the kicker and holder on a couple of plays. The holder is the backup QB which would be nice to keep and the kicker is flat good and we don't need to lose him either. Probably as simple as that.

Who the heck cares if they went for two, find something else to whine about.

Woody Hays was once asked why he always went for two and his response was, "Because they wouldn't let me go for three" I love that quote!

I think you need to look who ever the kid who scored was. Was it 30?? Is that Blake Owens from the JV? Who knows but it is entirely possible it was for the 50. Against that D with the mix of backups and JV, it should have been very low chance of success...

Also, there are a lot of kids who they are trying to get some carries. The kid who scored the extra point is a great, great kid.

Here's the explanation.....all of the starters were sitting on the bench with sideline jackets on. Most high school teams don't have 2nd string PAT teams....so the choice is to run FB dive to a freshman.....or trot your starters back out and hope they don't pull a muscle or take a shot in the knee.......

Very good. Now that question is answered finally. What was up with the time out with 0:50 seconds left in the game when Celina was taking a knee? At first I thought they might be putting some kids in the game but when the whole varsity was called together that idea went out the window. Any ideas?

OrangeChamps
12-06-2008, 02:13 AM
49, 50 it didn't make a difference NTFan has it exactly right. the kicker wasn't even warming up. It was obvious before they even scored that they weren't doing any more kicking.

What I thought was more interesting was that with around 1:30 left in the game the Bobcats were kneeling the ball in sportsmanship. After the first kneel, the Kaufman coach called timeout to prolong the game. Celina proceeded to drop a 25 yard pass on the Lions. Funniest thing I saw all night. Needless to say the Kaufman coach didn't call timeout again.

Kaufman was by far the best team Celina has faced in the playoffs this year, and they made them work for it. And they did. The Celina starters played almost a perfect game — no fumbles at all and minimal penalties, although there was one block in the back on a punt return that wiped out a very long Romero run. It didn't cost them, though.

It took the first couple of series for them to get going, but that shanked punt cracked the door open and the Bobcats poured through it.

Charley had a lot of red marks on his forehead and arms, and that's a good sign because that means he's running hard again. Every week he gets stronger.

And that defense — wow. After they adjusted to stop Miles after those two eaely runs, it was lights out. How many tackles did Caleb end up with? The dude was omnipotent.

I really liked the second string's drive — 81 yards, 16 plays, more than 8 minutes. And that was against Kaufman's starters, although I'm sure they were gassed by that time.

OrangeChamps
12-06-2008, 02:40 AM
I agree and disagree about Kaufman being the best team the Bobcats have faced. I believe their defense was very strong, but do not believe they were a better all around team than Pleasant Grove.

In regards to the block in the back, no way!! That kid turned and looked at Caleb before he hit him. Very, very questionable call.

I do believe, however, that this was a very near perfect game played by the Bobcats. Very few penalties, no turnovers, and after the first two possessions, near perfect execution. Charlie is coming around, the defense gave up nothing, and the passing game was crisp. Looking forward to a barn burner next weekend.

I may be mistaken but I think I even saw the kicker doing some sort of 'Riverdance" move to the band around that time. He was definately not warming up for a kick.

Not trying to stir the pot but my question is if they were not going to do any more kicking did the coach yell "P for K" and throw the ball for the kickoff. Others may buy it but it still does not make any sense to me.

Here is the real deal. On that drive it was exclusively the JV on the field with the exception of the QB. The JV kicker is no longer on the team as he moved to Prosper. The team had to go for 2 since the starters were done for the day and not ready to go in before the 25 second clock expired.
